*rant on*

I have been a computer tech for 15 year. A network engineer for 10 years. A programmer for 8 years. A MS Windows specialist for 10 years.

WHY CAN'T I INSTALL THIS PROGRAM!?!

With the hours spent trying to get this thing to install and NOT kill my PC and the price I paid for it, EMC9 has cost me over $400 already.

Over last 6 hours I have been on the verge of taking this back to the store (I doubt they'll take it back)

I finally, FINALLY got it to install after more "Clean uninstall/installs" than I can count.

So now I open VideoWave and almost the first thing I see are BLANK error messages and then it crashes out...    OMG.    Ok.. read MORE forum messages (I've become quite familiar with these forums by now)
DirectX9c...  ok, fine.. I download it and Reinstall it.. nothing... same issue..  Now I see I have to uninstall IE7???  When EVERY OTHER PROGRAM on my PC runs FINE with IE7?

*rant could go on for a few hundred lines.. so I'll stop here.  rant off*

My question (Yes there was a question in here somewhere):  Even if I DO uninstall IE7, how much more do I have to look forward to??   Will that fix VideoWave completely?

What happens when I open MyDVD, CineMagic, Photosuite, Media Manager?
How many hours will that take to fix these products?

I am going to walk away from this process for a few hours...  if the issues continue.. I'll go by PowerDirector

Thank you for listening (reading)

Flames ignored, helpful comments greatly appreciated.

Matt, it would be a big help if you posted your computer specs in your signature. Perhaps someone will see something in your hardware that may be causing the issue. Are you running Windows XP or Vista? If Vista, you may have to wait until the Visa Certified version comes out. A lot of people run the current Version on Vista machines if they don't install Drag to Disc. Do you have two packet writing programs on your computer (Drag 2 Disc, InCD, DLA, etc?) Having two will cause a lot of problems. I assume you had your anti-virus off when you did the install to a clean (no malware) defragged disk with plenty of free space. You indicated that you had a lot of experience but sometimes even the most experienced person forgets something.

Both IE 7 and WMP 11 should be removed an you should try (one more time) to do a repair. I like to use the one on the left side of the Add or Remove Programs when you click on support rather the one on the right.

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Laptop - Windows 7 Home
Dell XPS 1645, Intel I7 1,6G with overdrive ,4G RAM, 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, Sound Blaster X-Fi MB Panzer, 500G hard drive.

Hi sknis,

Thanks for the reply.

I am running XP Pro SP2, Pentium D 2 core, 3.2 GHz, 2G of RAM, NVidia GeForce 7900GTX.

I've totally removed all other CD burning, copying, creating software except, of course, that which is built into XP.

During install(s) I had everything beside system service shut down.

I'll go ahead and remove IE7 and WMP11 and do another clean install.

Thanks again for your help.

Matt

- Indecision may or may not be my problem.
