Here's my vital info:

EMC 9 suite
Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, all current hotfixes
ECS (Elite) mobo with nVidia nForce2 chipset, newest drivers installed
AMD Athlon XP 2600
1 GB RAM
120 GB Western Digital IDE HDD, 50% full
XFX GeForce 6800XT AGP 8x graphics w/256 MB, old drivers removed, newest drivers installed
Benq DW1640 burner, newest firmware installed
Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150 hardware MPEG-2 video capture card

I have successfully burned a number of DVDs with this setup, up until last week.  Suddenly, I can't burn my DVD.  I validate my project (Tools->Validate project...) , no issues.  I click "Burn" and try to burn to my DVD burner, and EMC9 pops up the progress dialog then sits at 0%.

I have read the other "can't burn" threads and tried everything recommended in them.  I have updated my video driver, though the old one worked just fine a week ago.  I have updated the DVD burner's firmware, though the old firmware worked just fine a week ago, ditto for mobo drivers.  I have even removed and reinstalled EMC9.

When the burn process hangs, the Proxy File Manager gets busy for a while (according to Windows Task Manager), but eventually finishes and everything goes to idle.  It still sits at 0% completed.

Here's what the burn log (BurnLog_3.txt) looks like:

===================================================
06/04/07 01:11:21

'Compilation1'

>>> Burner active, hMutex = 0x00001208 <<<

m_nThumbIndex = -1
m_varThumbInfo.vt = 0
m_varThumbInfo.parray = 0x00000000
BurnerState_OpeningProject: 100/0
State Change Time 01:11:21 : Elapsed Seconds 0.34
[ nextState ]  BurnerState_OpeningProject ==>  BurnerState_EncodingTitle  1 / 1
BurnerState_EncodingTitle: 0/0
GetLSPFromNextVOBS(): hr = 0x00000000, value = -1

GEV_PLASMA_STATE_CHANGE : PLASMASTATE_STARTING param2 = 2300
GEV_PLASMA_STATE_CHANGE : PLASMASTATE_RECORDING param2 = 2301

GEV_VOBGRAPH_NO_SAMPLES_RECEIVED : param1 = 0, param2 = 0
GEV_VOBGRAPH_NO_SAMPLES_RECEIVED : param1 = 0, param2 = 0
GEV_VOBGRAPH_NO_SAMPLES_RECEIVED : param1 = 0, param2 = 0
GEV_VOBGRAPH_NO_SAMPLES_RECEIVED : param1 = 0, param2 = 0
GEV_VOBGRAPH_NO_SAMPLES_RECEIVED : param1 = 0, param2 = 0

(Lines identical to the final six are added periodically, for as long as I let the progress dialog remain open.)

So, anyone have an idea what suddenly broke on a system that worked perfectly before? angry.gif

Many thanks

0% progress has always been resolved by video driver updates or re-installs, or directx9 updates.

Since you've updated the video drivers, update Directx9 to the latest.

If that doesn't work, you need to try re-installing the video drivers. It could be when you installed the new ones you didn't follow the installation hints steps on Nvidia's site or you had your av software running when you installed them. the 4 basic steps to reinstall the drivers are
1. Turn off AV software  before performing each uninstall/install step
2. Uninstall the current Nvidia drivers
3. Reboot so the default Windows VGA drivers are being used
4. Install the Nvidia drivers.

As I mentioned in my original post, I have already installed the latest video drivers.  I did follow the "go down to basic VGA first" instructions.  I even made sure the nVidia .INF files were gone.  I installed the latest nVidia driver.

After your post, I have (again) reinstalled DirectX 9c, on top of all the other firmware and driver updates.

There's still no change.  No burn.  0%.

(Again)  This setup worked just fine a week ago, and I made NO driver or system changes prior to EMC9 going on strike.

Roxio Creator Classic 9 can burn the source MPG file to a DVD with no problem.  MyDVD handles the menu creation and MPG preview just fine.  VideoWave works fine.

THERE IS *NO* PROBLEM WITH MY VIDEO DRIVER, DIRECTX, BURNER FIRMWARE or ANY OTHER PART OF MY SYSTEM!

ALL my other software works just fine.  DirectX games, video encoders, video converters, video capture, etc.

Nothing but EMC9 has ANY PROBLEM.  Why is it somehow my system that's at fault?  Basic troubleshooting logic tells me that it's a problem with EMC9.

WHY WON'T ROXIO/SONIC TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS PROBLEM!!??

I'm a software developer by profession.  I know something about bugs.  EMC9 has been out for how many months now?  There are NO software updates available for download for EMC9?

When YOUR SOFTWARE is the ONLY thing on the WHOLE COMPUTER that has a problem, then just MAYBE you should look at FIXING YOUR SOFTWARE!

(Can you tell this is frustrating me?  I have lost DAYS of time trying to get this flipping software to run!!!)

There's a lot of 'YOU' in your post but this is a user forum and not direct Roxio support.  We have no relationshi[ with Roxio different from you. Just a bunch of users sharing ideas.
Has any new software been added since the program worked previously?  Any Microsoft updates?  You might try a repair install to see if something got corrupted.

Sorry, I'm confused, you said that when you burn a DVD that it hangs a 0% complete, but which program are you using that does this?

Does this mean that MyDVD and Videowave can burn DVDs fine or does it mean they do everything else fine except burning?

Well, Roxio hosts this forum.  I guess I'm hoping they actually have someone who monitors them a bit or something.

No, I haven't added any software since it worked.  In fact, in an effort to solve the problem, I've uninstalled a lot of stuff and defragmented a few times along the way.

I do my MS updates manually, and I hadn't updated since it worked last.

I'm really stumped, since everything else works, even different angles on the same stuff. (i.e. VideoWave can edit and play video clips.  I can capture video to MPG just fine with my Hauppauge card.  Creator Classic can burn to data DVDs.)  So that seems to indicate that the underlying pieces (DirectX, graphics drivers, DVD burner, etc.) are all fine.

Thanks for your reply, and for your patience with my frustration.

MyDVD and VideoWave can show the video clips in the preview, and set the beginning and end of a clip, etc..  They do everything except burn.

Thanks.

Hi,

I seem to be having a similar problem with burn/hang.  I have a video edited and ready to go but when I try to burn it brings me to an 'encoding preview' it just freezes - never gets past 0%.  I wonder if I need to update the video drivers - can anyone point me to the right direction...do I go to HP to update drivers?  Thanks for any guidance!

Since you have not given any of your system specs at all, its impossible to offer any suggestions. You have to at least list your video card.
You would be better off to start a new thread stating your problem instead of jumping into another thread with perhaps a completely different problem.

OK, well I officially give up.  I will be reinstalling Windows to fix the problem.  Since simply reinstalling EMC9 hasn't solved anything, and neither has any other suggested fix for this problem, I'm left with spending a few days reinstalling everything.

Thanks a lot, Roxio.

Are you having this problem with only one project? Have you tried to create a new short project and burn it to DVD? Have you tried to burn to a image file and then burn it to DVD with DiscCopier?

You may have tried some of these but I could not find any mention in the posts (did skim then quickly).

I was having the same trouble and tried everything.  Here's what worked for me.  Whether your in myDVD or videoWAVE. Go to the menu at the top click on TOOLS scroll down to OPTIONS.

A new menu pops up the first option is HARDWARE or SOFTWARE. Select SOFTWARE.

This works!!!!  biggrin.gif  AMEN!!!
