does anyone know how I can import SD and HD footage into a project and keep the SD stuff as SD (576i or 576p, not fussed)?

I'm putting together all my home movies from cinefilm, vhs, DV and recent HDV stuff, when I import them all into DVDit it's telling me I've gone 7Gb over, this would only happen if it's going to transcode all my SD footage to HD @ 24mps instead of 6-8mps

can anyone help me out with this?

any ideas?
scott?

I know you've said it's possible before but wondered how to do it?

the HD stuff is set to be converted to 24fps as 25fps isn't supported. The SD stuff is already PAL SD DVD legal 720x576 (some widescreen, some fullscreen) MPEG2 progressive 25fps

I will be wanting to output this project to DVD for my family and BD for myself & my brother

maff, is your project type set to PAL? if not, the program is looking for 720x480 SD video. If that is the case, it will look at the 25 fps of your PAL video and might scale up to the next legal PAL size with 25 fps (1080i). If you are set to PAL and it still seems to be exhibiting this behavior, it is time to experiment. If you put in just SD legal assets, will they pass through as 720x576 to BD disc? if they are not legal assets, are the transcodes showing 8 mbs or 24 mbs? If it is handling 720x576 assets properly on BD disc, then adding HD assets to the project shouldn't change that...

I'll have a mess with it tomorrow night and let you know, thanks

OK, I imported just the SD stuff (720x576 @25fps), in DVD 4.7Gb mode they remain untouched, as soon as I switch it to BD25Gb they need transcoding.
I have a feeling that this is because HD movies can only be 23.xxx or 24fps and it wants to force the SD files to that

is there a format I can convert the files to before importing them that will keep them SD?
should I do 720x480 @ 24fps? (the HD stuff will be 1080p @ 24fps)

any ideas?

maff, did you go through with the BD burn to see if it actually transcoded those 720x576 assets? if you want to put one of your files onto a DVD-r and send it off to us to check out, I would be happy to have QA take a look at them.

I will upload a small clip to the web if that's OK

I didn't go through with the burn as it said my project was over 30Gb instead of about 10Gb and I didn't really have time to set the project going
