Hard to tell. Care to share your pc specs with us?
When you boot back up, are the files converted still able to be used? Does the system just freeze with no error messages? Please be as specific as possible with exactly what you did and what happened.

Thanks for your response.

I'm not sure what is causing it. Have you ever been able to do this before or is this the first time you've tried it? For a start at least, make sure your drive is defragged. 80GB is not that big of a drive anymore and it's possible you don't have enough temp space so before you defrag, do a disc cleanup to remove all the unused temp files and then try again.

I have done several conversions. The 1st gave the pc freeze ; the 2nd did not; the 3rd ended in afreeze of the PC.
During one of these I seem to remember a statement that I don't have enough temporary memory. Being a computer dince I have no idea what that means.

It means that the 512MB of RAM you have may not be enough. Jump up to 1GB and see if that helps. RAM is still relatively cheap. If you're not sure which kind you need, contact IBM.

512 MB of RAM is a bit on the bare minimum for operating the suite. The 'temporary memopry' probably refers to the Windows pagefile and that can be increased.
Go to Control Panel, System, and click on 'Advanced' Click on the 'Performance Settings' button and. on the first screen select 'Adjust for best performance', then click on the Advanced Tab in that and, at the bottom where it says 'Virtual Memory' click on 'Change' In that, set Paging File to at least 2560 for both Max and Min values. Click 'Set' and reboot

If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed
