volume sounds broken when playing DVD

I have a sonci dvd play on my lap top and recently when I play a DVD the sound is muffled. It doesn't happen when I create a DVD and play it or if I play a music DVD only a movie

What program are you using?
I don't know what 'sonic dvd play' is - it's not one of the EMC9 suite to the best of my knowledge
