Recorder is Busy

I've reinstalled Roxio, I've installed the updated px engine, I've uninstalled the CD drive and rebooted. Nothing seems to work. As soon as I write anything to the CD, it will no longer eject, and displays an error saying "The recorder is busy. Please try again later."
Any other suggestions??

It sounds like either you're putting in a disc formatted for use with Drag-to-Disc, or when it asks if you want to format the disc, you're letting it. If this is your intent, to use D2D, then try opening Drag-to-Disc and asking it to eject the disc and see if that works.
If you don't want to use D2D, then don't let it format the disc, and use a blank, unformatted disc so D2D doesn't take control of the drive. You could also start Creator Classic (for writing data) first, and then insert a blank disc.
Hope that helps!

No, I'm trying to find a way out. If I use IE 6 to copy a file to a blank disk, the CD spins up and the file appears to get there. However, when I right click on the drive and select "eject", nothing happens. I also can't get the drive to open when I press the drive button on the front. This behavior started after the installation of Roxio 9, so I thought maybe D2D would be the solution.
Thanks for trying, any other things I could attempt??

Again, is there anyone out there that can offer something else I should try??? My computer is only a year or so old, HP Media Center tower running XP SP2. I would not expect the CD burner to suddenly stop working. It writes successfully (according to a PC Doctor app), the unit just won't eject after writing to the CD. Note: the drive does eject after I reboot the PC, so the drive is not bad.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated!

Are you formatting the discs before using them?
From where are you "right-clicking" on the drive? Windows Explorer, or somewhere else?
Are there any messages on the screen after you "right-click" ejected?

Oh well, if they come back and post some clearer information, maybe we'll be able to know for sure.

Hi, thank you for responding, sorry I was unclear. What I was trying to say is that I use IE6 not IE7. You can right click, copy, go to the CD, right click and paste, and the file is there. Then go into Explorer (right click on Start, explore), right click on the CD drive, and select eject.
I do not format disks (I never have before, and have made a lot of CDs with Roxio. If you tell me I need to format CD-R disks, I will feel stupid)
I had successfully used Roxio to create audio and picture CDs. That stopped working, so to try to isolate whether the issue was Roxio or not, I tried to just drop a file on the CD and click eject. Even that stopped working. I have successfully used XP to copy data files to CDs in the past, for all my audio and picture CDs I have used Roxio (5 through 9).
Please let me know what other information I may provide to you. Thanks again for your help!!

If that is failing as well as the Roxio programs, it soundfs as if your drive may be about to expire.
Either that or you have a bad problem with the Windows installation

Do you perhaps mean Windows Explorer (the file manager) instead of Internet Explorer (the browser)?
If that's how you're creating your discs, then you're not using Drag-To-Disc, you're using the built-in Windows support, which writes sessions (more reliable than D2D's packet writing, which requires formatting the disc). In that case, I'd suggest going into Add/Remove Programs and uninstalling Drag-To-Disc and see if that helps.
Let us know if that helps.

The problem is that the system is barely a year old. It was working just fine until the Roxio installation. Since the Roxio installation, no CDs using any method. I've been using computers since buying a 10 Mhz 286 back in 1985. I've never had a CD drive fail before. Seems like an odd coincidence......

Uninstalled Roxio D2D
Rebooted PC
Inserted brand new CD-R disk (note that CD drive opens using "eject" or pressing hardware "open door" button).
Right-click copied Word document
Opened Windows Explorer
Selected CD drive
Right-click pasted file
File got to CD (CD spun up, file appeared on CD content)
CD Drive now will not open via any method (no "eject", no hardware "open door" button)
Rebooted PC
CD drive will now open
CD has been relabeled to Roxio, interestingly enough, so Roxio is doing something to CDs
Word document on CD can successfully open (i.e. copy was successful, just could not get out of drive).
Now it appears that, because I accessed the CD (???) the drive will not open again.
Has anyone else reported CD problems with Roxio 9??

That's not EMC - that's XP's built in session writing software (which was actually developed by Roxio for MS)

Not as written... XP doesn't actually write the file to the disc until you tell it to in a separate step, first, XP queues the file, then it tells you you have files waiting to be written and offers you a chance to write them. If it wrote it immediately, then either D2D is still running, or something else like InCD (a Nero application) or DLA (a Sonic app).

I remember/recognize the behavior you describe. My memory is that the files appeared to be copied, then in a separate step you would tell Windows to burn the files to CD.
I've never installed Nero or DLA. D2D did uninstall, I checked msconfig startup and the Roxio services are gone (except for tray watch). It's interesting that after reboot the CD has been relabeled as Roxio. That says (to me) that something related to Roxio is still in the mix.
I would attempt a total uninstall of Roxio, however I have been buying "upgrades" for a while. I have 8.0 media (thank goodness), however I can't find my 8.5 upgrade software. If I totally uninstall, that should resolve once and for all the whole question around did Roxio do something.
However, I'd want to get back to 8.5. Is there any location from which I can still purchase an 8.5 upgrade??

Okay... that pretty much confirms that you're burning using the built-in XP capabilities.

Well, unless you include ECDC 3.5, but technically, that's not an "EMC" version.

Well, that would explain why I can't find my 8.5 upgrade.
Thanks for the link for downloads. Guess I'll dump Roxio and see what happens next.
Thanks for the help!!
