I decided to use ogg vorbis for many of the songs because it sounds pretty decent at very low resolutions, especially with a not so great sound system on a computer running Windows 98. I wanted to put all my songs on a DVD to play at work. But when I used Roxio 9, the album covers do not show when I burned them to DVD. Is there a a setting I should look at. They don't even show on the computer I created them on. Now the songs I left as mp3 showed the album covers. I am wondering why this is so? Is ogg vorbis known for this behavior. I used dBpower amp to convert them. I also, used MediaMonkey to tag them.Any ideas? thanks

Well, I am going to live with the no album covers because, it enabled me to fit everything on one DVD. And the ogg files do sound pretty decent at very low birates; unlike mp3's which begin to not sound so great at even 64 bitrate. There is actually even another reason but I won't get into that. But for the future I am going to have to explore other alternatives, aside from mp3's.

Now this has me totally confused - Ogg Vorbis files are audio - album art isn't (it's .jpg or .gif usually)

Ogg Vorbis doesn't convert graphics - it's just a lossless audio codec.

What did you use to 'add' the cover art to the DVD?

Actually, Ogg Vorbis is a lossy compression scheme. I'm guessing that somehow there may be a way to include a file name in the tag information to associate the album art with the .OGG file, and then, if you have the proper player, it'll display the cover artwork. Again, I'm guessing here, and I suspect you have to manually add the artwork files to the project. Much speculation there on my part as I don't do anything with that.

Sorry there Dave - I got mixed up with Flac (which is the one I normally use) but a good rundown on Ogg Vorbis is available here

Any player that supprts ogg vorbis will allow you to add album art. I've been using MediaMonkey lately, as it seems the best out there. The album art stays if it is left on your hard drive but when you burn it to a CD/DVD, it will not show the album art anymore. So as long as you keep it on your hard drive, it displays the album art fine. MP3's have no problem with displaying album art on CD/DVD's. Displaying album art has always been important to me.

Check the FAQ I gave you and you will see this

"Can I bundle Vorbis and another media type (like text lyrics or pictures) in the same file?

Yes. The Ogg container format was designed to allow different media types to be multiplexed together; Theora will be mixed with Vorbis audio in an Ogg container to encode movies.

In addition, FLAC can be embedded in Ogg and some preliminary work has been done to put MNG and MIDI content into Ogg files as well.Experimental code is available in the ogg-tools module in the Xiph.org CVS repository. Programmers working on such extensions can discuss issues and questions on the vorbis-dev mailing list."
