Hi

I'm new to this. Just bought a new laptop with EMC9 installed and have come across a problem with burning DVD's.

Everytime I start up EMC9 and burn a DVD, the first disc I burn is always slow. I have a x8 Dual format DL drive and use TDK DVD-R and DVD+R discs. The first disc never goes faster than x0.6. Once this is complete the subsequent discs start at x3.8 and ramp up to x8 at times completing a full disc burn in 20mins approx compared to the first disc which takes on average 1hr 20min. I tend to fill my discs also.

Has anyone come across this problem also and does anyone have a solution?

My setup is a Dell 640M with a T5600, 160GB, 2Gb Ram and Vista Ultimate.

If anyone has solution I would be very grateful.

Thanks

I can't say with 100% certainty but, to me that sounds more like a hardware problem. You didn't say what make and model the drive was, but if you can find that and do a google search, you may find out if others have the same problem.

Did you contact Dell Tech Support on the issue?

Check to see if the IDE channel the drive is on, is set for PIO or DMA mode.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the advice. I'll check tonight. I haven't contacted Dell yet as I wasn't sure if it was a hardware or software issue. I guess I should maybe try another burning package too and see if I get similar results.

It is odd though that it isn't disc specific.

Thanks again, I will write up my results tomorrow and maybe it will help others with similar problems.

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Just to update you on this one. Tried another burning package - Nero and seems to burn at a higher speed throughout the burning process. Tried the other suggestions too.

So I guess its a bug in EMC9. Shame really given that once you burn your first disc it all seems to operate perfectly and burn any additional discs at a higher speed.

Hopefully this bug will be resolved in the next update.

Cheers

You should also check for any new firmware for your drive. My Benq drive wrote terribly slowly until I updated the firmware. And just because it's a new laptop and drive, that doesn't mean the firmware is up-to-date.
