I'm looking for some advice here.  I just purchased EMC 9 and installed in on a Dell 410 with XP MCE, Core2 6300 w/2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, etc. (basically exceeding all min req for software) and I have not been able to run a majority of the components in EMC 9 that I am interested in.
First encounter was the roxwatchtray9.exe runtime error at login, I solved that by shutting down its execution in msconfig.
Second issue was having the direct-to-disc pop up and not being able to "turn it off" from within the settings menu.  Again, solved with msconfig.
Third issue was (regardless of the direct-to-disc or roxwatchtray9 status) after opening "Home" and trying to run MyDVD, I get the C++ Runtime Lib error for VideoWave9.exe followed by the R6025 error.  In an effort to solve this I have searched Google and this site and tried the MSDN download of C++ lib (could not find a good match to the suggested search, so not sure that this was helpful);  the BO hotfix offered by Roxio;  the Services --> Automatic setting (and manual startup prior to execution of the software);  updated DirectX;  applied the Dell fix (Data204Plus.exe);  reinstalled after a system restore and pre-removal of programs such as Sonic DLA (which was removed during the first install), MyDVD LE, and Roxio RecordNow Audio, Copy, and Data--all to no avail.
Forth issue is when trying to start Photo --> Create Slideshow from Home, I get nothing: Creator 9 Home minimizes, then Restores without opening up any sub-program.

Observations:
- Audio, Backup, Copy, Data, and My Media applications seem to work (have not actually used them but they open without issue)
- MyDVD appears to almost work in that if I do not click "OK" with the runtime error message, I can navigate and actually perform some functions before it kicks out to an "abnormal program termination" message followed by the R6025 error.
- MyDVD LE functioned just fine before this EMC 9 installation, video captures, minor editing, et cetera.

Relevant hardware:
ATI Radeon x1300 graphics card
ATI TVT2-DT TV tuner card w/ comp vid input
SigmaTel mobo audio
IEEE 1394, SATA RAID w/ 2 ~250GB HDD, and other various semi-high-end components

Since I purchased this software with the intention of producing DVDs from captured VHS tapes and to make slide shows from gobs of photo, I would really like if I could get this software to work.  So far, I am highly disappointed in the lack of operability right after installation.  I am not running any high-end games, Office 2003 is about as complicated as it gets, I have Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9, and I am running some things like VNC, and Creative in the background but they have not indicated any conflicts.  I am not a computer neophyte, so go ahead and hit me with the technical jargon if it will help.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You may need to do the 'clean install' as suggested in other posts. The old LE version must be totally removed first to avoid problems (and that also means the EMC9 has to go as well). Once you uninstall, you should run the MS INstaller Cleanup Utility (available here) and remove all Sonic and Roxio references. Also, go to Documents and Settings (you will need to set folder options to show hidden files) and remove any Roxio or Sonic folders there

Now whether or not that will fix the C++ error, I'm not sure but it's worth a try

Finally, even though you aren't getting an error message about it, do shut down all background apps - the rendering process is so graphics and CPU intenmsive, things get a bit messy if it has to share CPU cycles with something else
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

You may need to do the 'clean install' as suggested in other posts...

I did as suggested, taking the cleaning process beyond your suggestions (manual regedit cleaning, etc.).  My payment for two hours of work was to see the same MS VC++ runtime errors for RoxWatchTray9.exe at login, a new problem of repetitively needing to register the software (when starting the suite or some of the components), and of course the same non-functionality of  various programs such as MyDVD and the others previously noted.  I installed with the bare minimum background apps running and likewise closed everything down prior to the first execution of the "Home" (even given that his machine should be more than capable of handling gobs of high-intensity apps).
Am I likely to be successful with returning the opened product?  If so, I am quickly gravitating towards that option.  I have had boatloads of experience with computers/OS/apps (I write software in VB, C, etc. as part of my job) and this is one of the first pieces of software that I can say I have encountered a fundamental flaw right after installation (the other being an older version of Intuit software).
Please let me know if you have other suggestions to pursue.  Event Viewer provides no insight and I am not getting any kind of dump file that I can investigate. I have not tried HijackThis yet but I am willing if someone here can help me decode the results.  I am suspicious that there are some missing .dll libraries in the installation package, but I can not track them down.
Again, any suggestions are appreciated.

OK - personally I disable RoxWatchTray9.exe in the startup configuration because I feel it's a bit of a resource hog anyway (I also uninstall D2D because I never trusted any packet writing s/w anyway).

You could try disabling it in msconfig - all it does really is try to catalogue any media files you have onm the computer

I have disabled both of them in msconfig already--I don't like having errors on boot-up (login).  I will likely remove D-to-D--I also don't like "services" being installed without option, it was not in the list of installed features to choose from.  BTW, I did not install SightSpeed or Xingtones on this round--both features I would not use.
My real concern is being able to use the software for the reason I purchased it.  Do you have any further insight on the Runtime errors?  Your help is appreciated.
  Thanks

At one point I read a posting that there were some libraries available from MS that were installed and solved the Runtime error.  I tried to find those, and was successful at locating only one file that did not appear to help.  Does anyone have a link they could post to the proper library file to download?
Thanks

Only thing I know about the runtime errors is that it never happened to me, it seems fairly rare and any info on that is somewhere on the board.

Sorry I can't be more helpful there

I filed a web ticket on 2 July.  I received the automated e-mail reply but have not heard from them at all since then.  As I read through this site it seems that Roxio just uses the web tickets to register problems but does not really reply to them.  Is this the case or should I just be more patient?
Frankly, I am so frustrated with this product that I am considering contacting my state consumer protection services to get a refund since I can not return an 'opened' software product to Amazon.  This is not even my only issue with this ill developed installation (http://forums.suppor...showtopic=24318).  Anyone else have a suggestion as to how to fix this software--other than the standard, time-consuming "reinstall" suggestion.

BTW, I did find the C++ Redistributable Library (vcredist_x86.exe here: http://www.microsoft....displaylang=en) noted in an above post and I did get a different response from the MyDVD software when I started it up just after installing the library.  It opened up and needed to register mpeg2 software (if I recall correctly).  Once I was able to do that, it coughed up a couple of new error messages (I don’t recall them exactly) and died again.  Upon reboot/restart of the software I was back to the same C++ errors.

It appears to be fixed--no thanks to Roxio support but with a slight nod to this board and other boards out there.  Here is what I did to fix the consistent Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error when I ran the Home application and MyDVD or other components of EMC9:
- Install the 2005 Microsoft C++ Redistributable Library (vcredist_x86.exe here: http://www.microsoft....displaylang=en)
- Cleanly remove Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 Suite, including the Sonic MyDVD-VR and the Roxio Direct-to-Disc (if you still have that installed)
- use regedit to remove any references to "roxio"  or "sonic" under HKLM/Software
- remove the Roxio and Sonic subdirectories under /Program Files/...
- reinstall the EMC9 Suite (I installed without Xingtone and one other component)

That was it.  Finally my computer did not start with the MS VC++  error after installation, reboot, and login (presumably caused by the D-to-D app), and I was able to run the video components that were previously giving me the error.  The main reason why this was not solved based on an earlier post I read on this forum was a lack of a link to the required redistributable library.
Based on my software experience, I would guess that Roxio did not include all of the required .dll files in their installation process. I would assume that they may have tested installations on systems that already had the required libraries installed from some other application and thus this issue never materialized during testing.
Now all I have to do is fix my consistent registration issue (http://forums.suppor...showtopic=24318) and I may actually be a satisfied, though slightly frustrated customer.

Fairly RARE!?!?!  MY GOD MAN.  Have you even looked at the boards?  Every other posting is about this C++ error.  Sure, you disable the service so you don't get the error at start up.  But try using the program.  Every other thing you open you get the C++ error - just with a different executable.  I have tried EVERY one of the "fixes."  EVERY ONE!  The MS redistributable.  The "hot fix."  The stopping of services.  I've installed and uninstalled so many times it makes by head hurt.  I'm more familiar with my computer's registry than some parts of my own body!   I'm trying to get my money back since I'm within my 30 days and I bought it direct from Roxio.  I'm still waiting for an RMA.  It's been 3 days.  No contact.  I think I just bought me an $80 coaster........

Now let me work this out - there are over 20,000 members on this board - if 'every other' post is about the C++ error - that makes 10,000 posts

Now a slight bit of exagerration is understandable - but that amount? Go and learn to count - and also consider the possibility that you have a flaky Windows system that is causing the error.

Or perhaps you believe that the gods moved from Olympus to Redmond?

So you think that everyone who purchased the product has those errors?  I would think that the number of people who post in these forums is a very low percentage of the people who own the software.

And, I would think that the percentage of people, who get that error, is extremely low.

Unfortunately, that doesn't help you at all.  Sorry it didn't work out for you, and if I was you, I would probably rant, too.

I was stuggling with them same C++ errors.  I have solved my problems, but am working hard to try to pinpoint the problem for the sake of others.  I have preformed a clean Vista install and am trying to determine which of my favorites applications is breaking my system.  EMC 9.1 works right out of the box on a fresh install of Vista.  But we don't live in a vaccum. I agree with the others that there may not be that many people affected, but unlike them I am unwilling to turn off features of software I paid for to prevent errors.  They are right in that it probably not EMC 9 that is causing it.  I believe you too are right in that ROXIO did not include all the dll's in the setup, and assumed the files would be available and correct on the systems.  I too am a programmer by trade, as well as a Microsoft Certified Professional.  Microsoft recommends that software companies not feed dll hell by distributing components included with windows.  Some other software on your computer broke those rules, and now Roxio is paying for it.  If you check "C++ errors" in google, you will see hundreds of problems with dozens of software packages and C++.  The google toolbar for Internet Explorer broke many a programs.  By the way, you don't have that installed do you?

Please, please, please don't patronize me.  I paid good money for a product that doesn't work - actually refuses to work.  And the company putting the product out is oddly quiet yet more than happy to take my money.  They let us fend for ourselves and expect the common user and some "user experts" to solve the problems they won't address.  I've used EZ CD Creator since Version 5.  But they broke my trust.  Also, for all of you Microsoft bashers out there that complain that they put out crude and break things, how can you in the same breath defend another software company that is doing the same thing.  I think consumers should hold all companies to the same standard.  Oh well, doesn't matter.  I was notified today that I'm getting my money back.  Can you say RMA? laugh.gif
