You may have problems with the graphics tho - in generel the 'LE' cards aren't really up to the job and you could end up having to use software rendering

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'd read that in another post and already disabled Roxwatch. Also don't know if there's a connection, but when the Visual C++ tab pops up and I get the hourglass, the "firewall is turned off" baloon pops up for a few seconds then goes away, even though the firewall is on.Thanks for the reply. I'll try the software rendering.

Personally, I never use D2D myself (in common with all other packet writing s/w it's about as reliable as an igloo on the equator for backup purposes)

If you have a lot of them, you might also take the opportunity to consider whether you really need all those startup items.
Some apps set some component to start up on boot, with an option to disable within the app; use that where appropriate.
If you do not recognise what a startup item relates to, you can look here:

they also give advice on whether an item is needed
