I loaded EMC 7.5 and have had nothing but problems. These numerous posts show that I am one of many.

My biggest issue is that I now can not burn any DVDs, when I was able to previously which means I can not back up any data.

The major problem seems to be that xp sees my drive as a DVD RAM deviice (Maddog) but as soon as I load a blank DVD it treats is as a blank cd. Also, none of the programs, (Roxio or xp's backup utility) will recognize the media. XP does see the drivie, it plays DVDs perfectly, but just won't behave like a DVD burner.

I'm giving up on EMC 7.5 which I got with the DVD drive, but would really like to get back to where I was before. I'm also using IE 7 and Media 11, unfortunately and it would be very difficult to roll back at this point.

Thanks, in advance.

PS The DVD burner worked flawlessly previously.

Roll back (IE 7 and Media 11) and you should be able to fix the problem they created!

I tried control panel/install software to remove IE7. It reported over 20 software patches and updates that were installed since IE7 that might be unstable if it gets removed. How would I know what other things might go wrong.

Remove any IE add-ons and then remove IE - it has caused a lot of problems along with Media Player 11

Ok, but I was just thinking. I really can't use the 'rollback' or restore point to get back to pre-IE7 days. Too many days have past. So, if I uninstall all the IE7 items, I would not have a browser that would let me get the IE6 download. Kind of a catch 22.

Would I need to load IE from the XP installation disks or something.

PS Thanks for your quick responses to this thread.

Well, I rolled back to Media 10 and IE6 successfully.

I've not reloaded EMC7.

XP refuses to recognize the blank DVD. Will loading Roxio fix this? It seems to be the only software that came with the DVD burner.

You need to reinstall after removing IE7 and MP11.

Even if you hadn't re-installed, you would have had to do a repair anyway.

btw - if you like tabbed browsers, the broweser of choice for most of us here is Firefox from www.mozilla.com

Thanks again.

I'll reload over the weekend. When I do, which 'update' should I use to update EMC7 (actually 7.5.x.x). My version came bundled with a MadDog DVD player, if that makes a difference.

I'm not really sure with the Maddogg version (whether it's the full 7.5 or a cut down OEM)

If it's two CDs it's probably full, if one it's not

For the full version, the updates are here

Roxio's instructions are pretty clear...

"Update the Retail (CD-ROM) version of Easy Media Creator 7.5x suite to 7.5.2.49 (English Only)
Important Note: This updater is intended for CD-ROM purchases acquired from a retail vendor only. Do not apply this update if you have downloaded your version of Easy Media Creator 7.

I doubt you have any type of full version that came with the Mad Dog Burner. Check your version #'s to make sure.

Have you checked the Mad Dog site for a update to the software?

"PS The DVD burner worked flawlessly previously."

If so why would you need a update?

To answer your original question " would really like to get back to where I was before",
uninstall Maddogs OEM version of Roxio and use whatever program you were using.

If you want to use Maddogs OEM version of Roxio contact them, as they provide all support for THEIR software.
