sad.gif Hi, Hi I am having a real problem getting this program to work. Like most I am running Vista (Ultimate), I have installed and uninstalled several times. Currently I found this forum. Found a step to step on uninstalling (including Reg files) did everything by the letter , including installing the patch and still can not add my vid clips in to edit. I keep getting the same error messages. First - The following codes must be activated before using the application MPEG2. When I click OK next the error is NO Permission - Bad installation. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this problem. Found help that I had hope would fix this problem and still have the same problem coming up. Congrads to the gentleman who finally got this program to work, wish I was you.

By the way, I have not even bothered to look at any other applications that came with EMC9 Suite as So far my only interest is just to do with the video applications.

Upside I can capture the video. Just cant do anything with it.

If anyone has any ideas what is going on with this program please send them.

Like most what? No Vista here.

I thought there was a hotpatch for the No permission problem. I could have sworn it was pinned at the top of one of the forums.

Like most that are reading the Vista forum, running Vista also.

I also thought there was something pinned about this, but could not find it. However, it seems like there was something about opening the application using the startup menu instead of the EMC screen, this got the activation to work. This is just a vague re-collection so may not even apply to codec activation problem, but doesn't cost anything to try it in case it was related to the activation problem. Mine activated in the normal process so did not have to use the workaround. I am not on the machine that has EMC 9 installed so cannot provide more info.

I am glad that you saw the pinned topic too, because I was beginning to think that I imagined it. smile.gif

Thanks Who Are You,
for the link to that pin. I did try that also and the 25 digit number did not come up. I currently have everything unistalled once again and will try another installation. At this point I am beginning to think this software is garbage and belongs in the garbage. Too hard to install and get working.

And Grampabruce; before you get your shorts in a knot. What I ment as "Like most running Vista" thought I was in the Vista forum. Apparently not my appoligies. and the (Ultimate) meaning what version I am running. So if anyone had any useful information for me like Who Are You could pass it on.

Again thanks Who Are You.

No shorts in a knot here, but saying "like most, I am running Vista" isn't accurate, hence my question. If you were making reference to the Vista Forum, as Who....... posted, then the "like most" wasn't needed.

Now that you have everything un-installed, what about using system restore to a restore point before your initial EMC 9 install? I usually do two things when trying new software 1) make a backup before installing new software and 2) manually create a new restore point. If I have problems installing, I then use the manual restore point and try again. If that doesn't work, I then do a restore using the backup image. Usually one of these will work.

If you are not familar with the restore points, unless you turned it off, a restore point is created daily. Also when you install new software one is usually (but not always) created - EMC 9 installation does create a restore point.

Off course, everything done between the restore point and the date of the restore might be screwed up.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

Hi Who,

I will see if I can find a restore point. The only thing that I have finally successfully installed last night was my ADS Capture wizard. Unfortunately, the software for editing is unuseable with Vista from a call yesterday.

So I will try the restore point. Only thing is that I will have to get rid of the Trial version Roxio first before I try yet another install. I am starting to think that this thing will have to be installed by someone with way more knowledge than I have or wait for patches that will accomidate the Vista O/S.

But I am will give it one more try, before I give up to round it to an even number of 100 attempts.

After MANY hours of trying to get EMC9 to work on my Vista PC, I have reluctantly concluded that if you get the "mepg2 activation" message followed by "bad installation - no permission" you are basically screwed. This after 3 calls to tech support and two recommended patches, netiher of which worked. I also did MANY "clean installs" of EMC9 and tried everything else I could possibly think of to no avail. Installation on an XP machine, resulted in the same mpeg2 activation screen, but that activation ran with no problems, although EMC9 is very buggy even when it does install properly.

One interesting observation: the mpeg3 activation screen did not appear for me until about two weeks after the program was installed on both my VIsta and XP PCs. (One tech had the balls to tell me that I wasn't licensed to run EMC9 on two PCs.) Prior to that point EMC9 ran fine on my Vista machine.

My plan:
1. struggle through the completion of my project on my XP PC, which was well along on my Vista PC before the mpeg2 activation issue appeared.

2. dump EMC9 from my PCs

3. avoid Roxio products forever.

LIFE IS WAY TOO SHORT FOR THIS.

TJL - if you didn't pay for two licenses then you are NOT allowed to run the program on two machines any more than running Windows or any other app on two machines without purchasing additional licenses,

Check the EULA on any OS or app and it's spelt out clearly on that.

Obviously, if you did pay for two copies, then you are allowed

After several calls to Customer Tech Support and about ten Installs and Uninstalls, I finally got a straight answer from Becky at customer support. There is no way around this! I have thwe same problem - Bad Installation" and "Invalid product key". "They are working on a patch for EMC9 and ONLY THAT will resolve the problem! Ther is no other workaround except to wait. I also have an XP pc and when I asked Becky if EMC9 would work on that, she said, "PROBABLY NOT!".
Also don't pay any mind to grandpabruce - he seems to criticize everyone. He jumped all over me for adding a second post. Some people don't realize that, "If you can't say anything nice - don't say anything at all!" That's proper etiquette!!

gi7omy doesn't get it.

If the darn thing worked on my Vista machine, I would have had no reason to install it on my XP machine.

If Roxio had any clue as to how to get it to run on my Vista machine, I would have had no reason to install it on my XP machine.

If any of my 3 calls to tech support had been helpful, I would have had no reason to install it on my XP machine.

EMC9 is probably the worst software I've encountered in the last 20 years.

I've used Pinnacle Studio in the past with pretty good success. The reason I started with EMC was the "Ken Burns" motion effect for pictures. Now Studio (and probably others) have that feature. I'm going to take a look at the latest Studio and possibly Nero. I'll probably monitor this site for possible solutions to the MPEG2 activation issue, but won't be holding my breath.

FYI - the disc labeling component of EMC9 doesn't work properly either.

Good luck to all of you who continue to stuggle with this issue. As for me, I'm OVER AND OUT!

I totally agree with most of you on this issue now. I talked to an online Help. Got directions to do another clean install that took hours to make clean (registry files) then loading the entire CD to a file on my desktop, ran the Setup.exe file as administrator. That didn't work.

Then had contact with two different basically email techs on the selfserve. Gave me almost the similar but slightly different approach to a clean install. Although I had to install a patch which was mentioned before, and an activation patch along with a registry cleaner. One they recommended cost $. Went to CNet.com and got the same one different ver. for free. Had to make an Administration person to log into. Then install as Administrator. Which I thought I was already, since I am the only one on this puter. To find that nothing has changed after three more Uninstalls and reinstalls. Getting rather cranky about the whole thing, athe worse part is the directions seem to be all over the place. Need for a step by step with nothing omitted from any step.

I wish that there was more recourse for this problem. I am having the same problem with an ADS product as well. There techs are working on the program relating to video editing for Vista. No idea how long that will take to fix. So Here I sit with a wack of videos and no way to edit them. No problem loading to the computer, but cant go anywhere from here. Also would be nice to use the Audio stuff to. That doesn't work as well. Didn't bother testing anything else there is not much point. There most likely is a flaw in every part of this Program. Maybe in 6 month to a year one of their techys will figure it out and put the fix on the front page

Now Studio (and probably others) have that feature. I'm going to take a look at the latest Studio and possibly Nero.

There is another program I have had good luck with under Vista. See list of programs in my signature below. Like Pinnacle, it is a dedicated editing/creation tool, not a Swiss army knife (backup, dvd viewer, etc) like Nero and EMC. Just depends on what your needs are.

I like all the programs, and use each depending on what I want to do. I have had good luck with all of them on Vista, including EMC. While the forums for all these programs have some "problem" topics, it seems the EMC forum has a larger proportion of "problem" topics than the other forums. This would seem to be some indication of their stability under Vista. Perhaps more EMC "problem" topics because Roxio has refused to release an update to fix problems, just promises "soon" instead of taking the high road of "talk the talk, walk the talk"

Hi Everyone,

I"m NEW to the forum. And guess what? YUP! I can't get EMC 9 to run on my brand new HP PC! I spent several hours online with the self-help tech. Ran through all the same steps that most of you have and as you, STILL not working! I did 3 system restores and installed EMC right away each time after doing a FULL CLEAN UNINSTALL. Tried the patches.... you get the idea..... So, a few questions:

1. Has anyone of you had to pay $ for calling tech support with this issue (I certainly hope NOT!)

2. What do you think of Nero 7. A worthy substitue? Will it run on Vista Home?

3. What other "all in one" solution packages are out there?

4. Does Roxio offer refunds for their software? I have a NICE screen-shot of their home page where it says that EMC 9 is Vista certified (ANY IDEA if they actually did ANY TESTING on this? FOR REAL!). Which to me means supported. But, hmmm it's NOT, thus I pay for a product that I'm not being able to use!

Best,
Diego

You really should start your own thread with the problems you have and what you've done so far listing all your system specs. No need to hijack this one!

I have the same frustration! I was running EMC 9 suite on my Vista Ultimate with no problems until 2 weeks ago. I installed something new (don't know what) and MyDVD quit working. All other parts were still OK. I got the message that I had to activate MPEG-2 codec and got the message that I had an Invalid Product Key.

I upgraded to EMC 9 Deluxe hoping that would cure my problem and it did, but now I get the No Permission - Bad Installation error!

Tech support was very helpful but they are only open during the day when most of us are at work!

rolleyes.gif Hi All
Well Finally no longer have the No Permission Bad Installation Message.
Now I have gradutated to the Activation error of Invalid Product Key when attempting to activate online. When attempting to activate offline everything goes well till the last page. The Orange Product key is not on page. Space Blank. What next.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make that Orange 25 digit number to magically appear. I did install the Patch EMC9rmv already no help there.

I hope that I am close to getting this thing to work (Video Wave).

I also have a problem loading my limited amount of music to burn to disc. But right now I would like to get over this one more hurdle with Edit with Video Wave. Then go on to the next issue.

To all thanks in advance for your help and suggestions before this post and after.

Hi Dshiels
My last ditch was to Open Roxio Home page. Click on the tab Update and download and install everything there. I don't know if that was my miricle or not this time there was actually some updates.

But be warned that now i am onto a new problem. See my post July 17 2:08 am post.
