Hi everyone - I am attempting to place some of my pictures on a DVD-RW so that I can take them to the store and order the pics. I used "data disc" and put all my pics on there and burned it. When I go to look at the disc in either the D or E drive, it shows the names of my pictures but doesn't know what to open it up with so the actual photo is not visible. When I click on a picture, it asks which program it should use to view it. I was hoping the pictures would just appear and I wouldn't have this problem. I know the pictures are on there but I assume this same things will happen when I go to the store and put my disc in the machine. What do I do?? Thanks in advance. You always know how to help me!!

What format are the images? Right click on an image and then select open with. Chose something like Windows fax and picture viewer. You should see a new window with all the images in the folder. Click next or the slide show option.
I haven't used photo printing in a long time so I don't know what format they want them in. Most places were able to use jpeg image format. The printing service should be able to just download them from a disc and do the printing. They do this all the time.

If they are showing on the disc as <filename>.jpg or .bmp, or whatever they were on your hard drive, then they should be fine for the photo store. The only issue you may have is if the store can't read dvd discs, or dvd rw discs. I haven't tried a dvd (r or rw) before where I go. I used cd rw's. Now I just use a usb flash/thumb drive, it's faster for putting the files on than a disc.
If in windows explorer you switch to view to Thumbnails do they show as images? If you double click on them on your hard drive, do they open up in a specified program or does it ask you there also?

Thanks for your replies. I never thought that a DVD-RW might not work but that is a possibility.
No, they don't show as images when I switch to view thumbnails - the "image" that is shown is the way it looks when it doesn't know what program to use. If I double-click it, I am also asked to choose a program and when I do use a program, it only shows that one picture but in the program that has been chosen, not in windows explorer.
I probably should just use a CD-RW and download the pictures on it using windows explorer! Thanks so much anyway.
