ok, so here' the scenario. Recently bought a LaCie slimline portable DVD burner for my toshi laptop, and this drive comes with EMC suite 9.

EMC9 install on Vista went painful - I kept getting device not ready errors which I assumed must have been dodgy reading of the DVD, but perhaps not.... clicking retry seemed to work, but it was a s---l----o---w install...  Then I did the blocked driver update as directed on restart.

Main reason I wanted to run this today was to burn a couple of ISOs.  So I try to run diskcreator, nothing happens, the image name doesn't even apper in task manager.  If I run it elevated as Administrator, it runs for a few seconds, appears in taskman, but no UI elements are shown, and the process quits without an error message.

Anyone with any ideas? I think I may have to toast this HDD and start afresh......

All the other apps seem equally behaved - no UI, no process visible, no obvious errors.

I tried installing the app on my old clunker Dell running XP and all good there - no obvious issue, even with the same media disk.

Since this is probably an OEM version that came with the drive there's no telling what changes the mfg made to the app. It's possible that it just is gonna have problems with Vista. What is the version number?
Some have gotten 9.0 to work with Vista. 9.1 is the true Vista compatible version.

Thanks Terry for taking the time to reply.
The OEM printed disk says "Easy Media Creator Suite 9 with Lightscribe Labeler for Windows 2000, XP & Vista".  Doesn't specifically state a version other than "9".
The product is listed in the control panel applet as "Roxio Creator 9 XE" and the DiskCopier9.exe file has version 9.0.2.62.
I think I'm going to wait for the 9.1 update to see if that helps, and in the meantime I'll remove what I have and reinstall it on my XP machine.  The only thing I wanted the product for was to be able to burn from ISO image, so I'm OK to do that from my other machine.
thanks again
Brett

You will probably find that when the 9.1 update eventually does manage to arrive, it won't work for you as it will be for the full retail suite and not for a cut-down OEM version

I'm basing that on updates dating way back to Adaptec days - they never did include OEM versions in that as support for those is supposed to come from the OEM themselves
