After getting to grips with the editing of videos and burning simple projects successfully I have just completed a project that is longer and uses more video effects, sound effects etc.
When I come to burn the project will go no further than Overall progress 42% and Encoding movie 43%. The program does not hang or freeze as I can cancel the burning and all other operations are as normal. I have tried to burn the image first but the same happens! Frustrating!
Can anybody help?

First, for good maintenance, make sure your hard drive is defragged. You'd be surprised how helpful that is when doing video work.
It might be that a transition or effect is holding this up since you've tried the image file and had the same problems. You don't say how large this project is but assuming you have plenty of free disc space, is it possible to put this project into 2 separate ones and try each one to see if that helps.
And, are you sure you gave it plenty of time? Video work takes lots of time and there's just no way to rush it.

Thanks for feedback. I havent tried defragging yet, but have edited out a 15 second frame that it appeared to 'stick on' at Ov Progress 42% and Enc Movie 43% and attempted to burn again. This time it stopped again at Ov Progress 42%, Enc Movie 43% but with a different frame at this stage. Wondered if this would give any further clues?
I am loathed to split the project into two particularly at the point where it stops or could this be done at any point?
There is plenty of free space and have left this project running for over 45 minutes 'stopped' at the points mentioned above hoping it would continue, is this enough time?
Thanks, TerryW

Would you please post your computer specs? Make sure you've updated your video drivers and have the latest DirectX version installed. Then, shut down as many background programs as you can and start the process again and this time, do it before you go to bed and leave it alone overnight. That way there's absolutely no question that you gave this process enough time.

Thanks. Have posted specs, not sure if the information is given is what you require. Will load Direct x and try over a longer time period. Thanks

Terry, have you tried other projects? If so, did they work?
I'm still thinking an effect or transition may be the problem but it's hard to tell. If you can't do simple encodes with no effects and transitions, then I'm stuck too! Your system is fine.

Hi Paul/Beerman
Yes the projects I have worked on before have been fine. This one was longer being 1 hr 20 mins, but in the editing everything was accepted by the program, so the signs were ok for burning the dvd.
I will however look at the transitions again and attempt to reburn the project. It is just so frustrating when you finally get a program that should enable digital editing to fall at the final hurdle of the burning!

I understand your frustration. If a good number of your projects worked before, it's stands to reason that things are ok with your system and the problem lies in the project itself. That would be my bet.
Don't give up. Keep trying!
