Does anyone know how to stop program crashes when working with text on a separate picture in Videowave.  I just updated my video card and it now registers HARDWARE in options, but now whenever I try to add text to a picture and make a mistake and try to delete a letter the program crashes.

Now getting Runtime Error!
                  Program C:/Program Files/Roxio?VideoUI9?VideoWave9.exe
                  R 6025
                  pure virtrual function call

Check here for the Roxio KB article on that

Thank you so much for your reply.

Since writing my question I uninstalled Roxio 9 and installed Roxio 8 because I didn't used to have this problem in 8, but now 8 is acting just like 9.

I tried doing everything that was described in the thread that you sent me and now I don't get the runtime error, but now when I try to change text on a picture the screen goes black.  Any other suggestions.

Force the program to software and try again.  (Put a dot near software rendering).
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Yes, that worked, but I bought a new video card so that I could use "hardware" and get random transitions and 3-d transitions.  Would it work to put in text under "software" and then switch to "hardware" to put in the random transitions?

That is what I was looking for. It might be and one or all apply 1) The drivers for that card need to be updated. Remember that nVidia requires that the old drivers be removed and new ones installed. 2) That you have that card set to best appearance and not best performance. Change that. 3) That hardware acceleration is not set to full. 4) That anisotropic filtering and antiailising are not set to application controlled.
You can do that all from nVidia control panel.

Please also update Microsoft's DirectX 9c.

Also who manufactured that card?  Go to their web site and download the latest they have "approved".  Sometimes going back to an earlier driver will also solve problems.

Thanks again for your reply and I'll try to answer all of your questions.

I found the control panel for my driver which is XFX manufactured by Nividia.

After installing the new driver the other day, I did remove the old driver and updated to the new driver.

Under appearrance "Let the 3D application decide" was checked so I changed it to "Use my perference emphasizing Quality" and slid the slider all the way to the Quality side.

The Hardware display is set to "Multiple display performance mode"  I didn't know if that was correct or not so let it alone.

The Anisotropic filter was set to "Application controlled"  and there was a choice of None, 2x, 4X or 8X.  I set it to 4x

The Anitaliasing setting was set to "Application controlled" and there was a choice of None, 2x, 2Xq, 4X, 8XS  I set it to 4X

I upgraded the Direct 9 the other day.

I just tried to add some text to a picture in a slideshow with it set to "hardware" and it crashed as soon as I tried to type in the text so I changed the anisotropic and anitaliasing settings to 8X and 8XS respectfully and it worked longer.  I could type in text and change color, but tried to change color again and it crashed again.  Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Those filters should have been left alone.

Is the text you are using something from the program or something special from a different program/download ?

Does the program crash when you use the 3D transitions?  Those would be the hardest for the card to handle.   When you run the rendering test now, does the program default to hardware or software?

nVidia doesn't make cards; just chips.  In dxdiag, what does the left side of the window show under the display tab.?   Does it list your specific card?

I do not have any other suggestions except to do a repair on the program.  If that doesn't work, do a clean uninstall and reinstall.

I think that you mean to keep the filters set at 4x so I did.

I'm just trying to add text (from Roxio) to several pictures in a slideshow.

No, the program doesn't crash when I use 3d transitions, although the DVD slideshow doesn't burn, after making the changes you asked me to make now the computer doesn't crash, but it stops working about a third of the way though.

Before making the changes when I ran the render test and it went to hardware, now after the changes it goes to software.

In Systems, then hardware, then device manager, under Display adapters, it says NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Not sure what you mean by dxdiag

No, I meant that the filter should have been left at software controlled.

Windows uses DirectX to handle all the audio and visual aspects on the computer. dxdiag (shorthand for DirectX diagnosis)  is a way of checking that the audio and video functions are working correctly.  Go to Windows start. select run. type in dxdiag > select OK.  Wait while the program set up dxdiag.  When it is done, you will see what version of DirectX you have and you will have a choice of tabs along the top of the window that opens.  If you click on the display tab, on the left will be your video card (should be the 5200) and on the right will be the diver number.  The last four digits will be the number that you download from EVGA or directly from nVidia.  It will probably be the 9x.xx series. Probably 9371. (usually written 93.71).

You are working in Video Wave aren't you.  Did you watch the demo video about adding text here?

I'm really running out of ideas.

I have a Nvidia Ge Force FX 5200, Version 6.14.0010.9371  And Direct X9c

Now I also have the problem that it won't burn on a DVD, it keeps crashing.

I'm going to try to uninstall and clean install and see what happens.

I seem to have gone from bad to worse.  Thanks for your help, I'll let you know what happens after reinstalling.

That card is definetly not a new card, and is why you are running into problems.

You said you purchased this card specifically to work with hardware rendering, so are you sure this is the card you purchased?  If it is, then you bought the wrong card.  If it isn't, then your computer isn't recognizing your card, so you probably have the wrong drivers installed for it.
