I would like to know why it's taken 4 hours to get to 75% completion on a dvd I'm trying to burn. It's a downloaded avi.

A bit more detail would help - what sort of avi file?
Also, are you talking about the actual burn time or the rendering time?

It's a downloded movie that I want to be able to play on my tv.
All I know about the burn time or rendering, is that I clicked the burn button litterally over 4 hours ago now.

Render time depends on several things: length of movie and your CPU speed. For a 3Ghz Dual core processor like mine, it takes 1.5x to 2x the video length to render DV AVI AND burn. These are two separate processes. Most likely your file DivX or Xvid which is highly compressed. These files must be decompressed and then recompressed as MPEG 2s and THEN burned.
So using my example, a two hour video would take at least 4 hours to complete on my machine. If your processor is slower, then it would take even longer.
