Try clicking on it down on the taskbar and see if it then opens.

Terry might be righ. It might just be sittin down there on the "Task Bar" or blue bar as you call it. If it doesn't open by clicking on it there, try going to START--ALL PROGRAMS--ROXIO EMC 9--AUDIO--EASY AUDIO CAPTURE, and see if clicking on it throught the all programs will open it. Attached is the screen you should be looking at when it does open.

Have you ever had it open before ? if so have you changed anything on the computer since then.

Terry, I've read this trail on eazy audio capture, and have been through all the help.  No luck, I'm thick, but maybe you can guide me out.  I've got a Dell with Vista Ultimate and Roxio 9.  No sound card other than the motherboard.  When I open the EZ Audio most of the upper screen is "greyed out".  I hae 3 options for selecting "capture from", but nothing available in the input box.  The recording level and bars are greyed out.  I can see the level bars jump when I change from one to the other of the 3 capture forms, and I can save the recorded file though it won't play back.

Any suggestions, maybe a tutoral that I can go to, or settings I should be making but am missing?

Thanks
Leo

Leo,
I believe this is a problem between Vista and the sound on your motherboard.
When Microsoft did Vista they changed the way that it handles sound. As a result a lot of soundcards(whether built in or add on) don't have the functions they had under XP.
I can't capture from my Audigy under Vista because of this. What you'll find is that if you look at the card most of the inputs you had under XP are gone or disabled.

Try going to Vista,Control Panel,Sound and looking at the recording options. You should see what inputs you have. You can try showing all disabled inputs and then try enabling something that might come up that you can use.

If you're trying to capture from a cassette,turntable,etc...you should be able to use line in.
If you're trying to capture streaming audio from the net then you may have a definate problem. This is where people are having trouble finding inputs that work.

Thanks Terry, I tried going to the sound/recording options, nothing "dis-abled" and only line input and front and rear mike input.  Tried playing with all the configuriation options, still no go.

Your last sentence about capturing streaming audio pretty much hits the nail on the head.  I probably should call Dell now and see what they have to say.  If I find anything I'll post it.  Mean time, again, thanks for the feedback.  I like this dialogue opprotunity.

Best regards
Leo

If they give you any clues let us know.A lot of people are running into the same thing. So far I haven't come across any real solutions other that it's hit and miss with your soundcard. Some work, some don't.

Yes I am having problems as well I cannot select input, and it does not record with a built in sound system, Karajan Audio Module.

At least with Creator 8 and xp I could capture sound with the same computer.

Now I have upgraded to Creator 9 and Vista and no longer works.

What a sad state of affairs upgrade, spend hard earned money and failure looks like we are going backwards.

So I have spent a day trying to sort out a problem that Sonic should have fixed. How many others are in the same situation, would have help if Sonic had owned up and reported it on the web site.

When are they going to fix it after all it is now 7 + months since release and MS are talking about the next OS.

Now you are saying that the rest of the program doesn't work and it killed Vista!!!

A lot must have happened in one month…

If you had paid attention to all the posts on this topic you would know that this is a problem with the way that Vista handles sound. It's a result of most apps and soundcards using Direct Sound and Vista no longer using it.Until soundcard manufacturers make cards that process sound the same way as Vista then this is going to exist.
It is not a problem that just happens in Roxio products, all products that used Direct Sound are having troubles in Vista.Microsoft changed this, not Roxio or any other software or hardware manufacturer.

I am running XP and am having the same problem NOW! But I used the Easy Audio Capture recorder many many times on Friday, Sat and Sun. On Sun pm when I tried to use it again, it appears to run an shows up in the task bar but when I click on it nothing happens. I have just completed an unistall and reinstall of the Roxio Creator 9 and it's still doing the same things. I've gotten two answers from Roxio tech support but has be to no avail. I've had to resort to a free audio recorder I found online with a limit of 3 min. Have to make a couple of takes but then it's possible to combine the takes in the audio editor program.
