Do I feel dumb. This program is incredible!
When importing video from a camera, the smart scan option finds the clips for you and allows you to import just the clips you want, not the entire tape. You can select several clips or one at a time, and the program will find all and import them into seperate files. This makes editing (for me) much easier by working with smaller sections than with a 1 to 2 GB file.
I don't know if EMC 8 has this, but if it does I sure didn't find it.

Yes, V8 had smart scan. The only thing I don't like about smart scan is how it is constantly rewinding the tape. Play, rewind, Play, rewind, fast forward, play, rewind, etc. I can't imagine how that could be good for the mechanisms in the camcorder.

I didn't notice that on my Canon. But then I selected clip that were next to each other. I will pay closer attention next time. I was just thrilled I found this.
