Can a 9.1 "update" work or is replacement needed?

I am one of the many who can’t use Easy Media Creator 9 after paying for it months ago. I have documented a problem where installing it causes playback of .mpg (MPEG2 video) to fail and these are files copied from my Tivo by EMC 8 under XP. After many iterations through Roxio support the only suggestions I received were blind alleys which appeared to me to be nothing more than delaying tactics. I have patiently waited for the 9.1 update, however…
I have major concerns about using a 9.1 update on top of 9.0 because of the “damage” installing 9.0 causes. Also the 9.0 installation procedure is faulty in not properly allowing selection of individual components. I am doubtful that an “update” can correct these problems.
The only solution I see is a replacement by 9.1 which is installable by itself. Since a valid product key is required, I believe this protects Roxio sufficiently. This also eliminates further delay in developing an “update” which can comprehensively resolve all the problems created in installation of 9.0.

EMC 9.1 is somewhat stable. Roxio has a cleanup utility and or you can uninstall normally and then go get a copy of recleaner and delete out all of the Roxio and Sonic entries from the registry assuming EMC 9 is the only Roxio and Sonic product that you are using. Even 9.1 has some issues.

Hi Roy,
Thanks for sending me the sample file. I'm able to play this file back on several different PCs. One PC was running EMC 9.0 on XP, another running EMC 9.1 under XP and another running an unreleased version of Creator under Vista. I suspect that another program may be interfering with your ability to play these files back. Have you installed any other programs with video capability?

The failing combination is Vista Ultimate and EMC 9.0. Please test that combination, not any XP version (this is the Vista forum).
The original test (many months ago now) was on a clean Vista install with only the Intel motherboard drivers, ATI video drivers and EMC 9.0 installed. I also tested again later with my production Vista system that did have much more software installed and go the same result.
If you tell me how to obtain a copy of 9.1, I will build yet another Vista system and test it but can no longer afford to spend any more hours on 9.0 when an updated version is available that hopefully will resolve this and the selective install issues.
Please consider my suggestion to simply make 9.1 available to 9.0 customers. This will save your developers a significant amount of time attempting to build an "update". That will not only greatly improve the chances of success but also improve customer satisfaction.

Hi Roy,
OK... I installed EMC 9.0 on a clean install of Vista Ultimate. I had no problems playing back the sample MPEG video file that you sent me using Windows Media Player 11. I am using a Dell Precision 390 with an NVidia Quadro FX video card.

I can't get Easy Audio Capture to work either. I have tried it with the onboard sigmatel audio and after disabling it, added a C-Media 8768 based card. What should card should I buy to work with EMC9 on Vista Ultimate 32?

Generally, any of the Creative cards will work - they seem to be the best supported ones around
