Just picked up a new system with HOME edition of Vista on board,,, it has a LightScribe DVD burn drive in it so dashed out to get some LightScrob disc's.. Of course I have my full version of Nero loaded on this system..

BUT I can not burn a thing,,, unless I flip the disc over and on label side burn a label, which works fine, I now have 3 nice disc's, burned with labels and can NOT burn a thing on other side..

Here is what I am using

Roxio Creator Basic v9
Version: 9.0.095
Build: 900B95J, HMP

What have I done wrong??? I have only been burning disc's on other machines for,,,,,, a long time, but very new to the Vista world and LightScribe??? BTW I tried to burn the CD side first and the label last.

Thanks

You have kept us in the dark!

Which specific Program are you using? What are the project settings? What happens when you click Burn?

There is no extra charge for providing details!

Programs: Classic can burn.

MyDVD can burn.

VideoWave can burn (sort of)

Music Disc Creator can burn.

Overall there are 35 programs included in the Full Suite and most of them can burn.

Without the specifics and any error messages you are posting the equivalent of "My car won't start. What's wrong?"

Great now I know what you mean, I can sure tell you about my turbo VW that runs about 10 seconds in a quarter, but a software guy I am NOT.. OK,,, on my first burn try with the Roxio it "appeard" as everything was working find, the progress bar would progress in a very slow manor, when it was "done" it said it had SUCCESSFULLY completed the BURN job, I took it out of the DVD drive (only CD drive on this system) flipped it over and attemped to "burn" the label.. The label turned out great, nothing on the other side!! Wife is sitting in same room with her XP system and tried to "read" CD in her drive, NADA, blank,,, the message she got was a blank CD was in the drive...

I have used Roxio for yers doing picture and data backups, but this is my first try with something of this magnitude (to me) the Vista packaged software is what I am using and have NO QUALMS purchasing the full ($50.00 more) if it does the job, it forced me into making a slide show with all my pictures, and I really wanted all 528 of them on a seerate CD, not compiled into a slide show, but,,, shure would be happy if it worked...

We're still guessing exactly what you're trying to do, and how you're trying to do it.

It sounds like you're trying to create a DVD Slideshow, is this true? If so, there are three ways you can attempt this in the Roxio Suite, SlideShow Assistant, MyDVD, and VideoWave. Most people recommend doing it through VideoWave. Once that's done, you can import that project into MyDVD and author the DVD and any menus you may want.

So, give us a click by click detailed list of exactly how you're doing your Slideshow. For example, when I go to start Videowave, I click: Start -> Programs -> Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 -> Video -> Videowave. This is the kind of detail we need from you. It really doesn't matter how many discs you may have wasted at this point, nor that the lightscribe feature works nicely, though that gives us some indication that the drive appears to be working. We're users like you, and while we may sympathize with wasted discs, we'll likely recommend that you buy a few RW (erasable) discs to play with until we get the real problem solved.

Also, details about your new machines video subsystem would be helpful, what chipset does it have? Is it a separate card, or built into the motherboard? How much memory does it have on its own? Or does it borrow from the system memory?

Let us know.

Hey Mushroom---I suspect that you might not have the correct drivers for the LightScribe burner you have. Just because it's new and on a new computer does not necessarily mean that it has all the up to date firmware and drivers.

It would help a great deal if you gave us some information regarding the make and model of your computer and the make, model, driver and firmware of the LightScribe burner. Also, not only the EMC version you gave us but the program you are using to do the burn and what type of burn it is. (Creator Classic, data etc.). Have you tried other makes of media to see if that's the problem ?? Like trying a media that is NOT Lightscribe just to see if it burns O.K. I have a LightScribe burner on my HP laptop and it not only burns LightScribe type media but all other types as well. Well, everything except "Memorex". I wouldn't give you 2 cents for a thousand of them.

OK will try,, this is NOT an 8088, nor a chicklets system.. The Processor is a Celoren "D" 360 with 1.5 GB on motherboard, no drive "A" just C, with a DVD drive with Lightscribe, DVD and RW on the drive door, this was a shelf take off at Circuit City.... I am really7 sorry about maybe not explaining about this problem but the only thing I ever,,, in 23 years with a CD drive was listen, load and maybe back up some pictures once in a while.. So be gental with his old buzzard..

I wanted to make a cd with 528 pictures on it, for a back up. but after I clicked on the Roxio button, up poped Roxio Creator 9, I get to choose which function I wanted, which I picked a PHOTOS, and a window opens telling me I can upgrade, and one selection which is make s SLIDE SHOW, then in small print ist says,, create amazing photo slideshows, then save as a video file or a DVD. NOTHING else so I click on this one.

I then get a new window which is called "Slideshow Assistant" and I can now add photos and audio. as I go through and select 528 photos, I then tell it to BURN and it say's put the disc in, which I do making sure the label side is UP, and it takes off and sure looks like it is doing the job of burning,, a good 30 minutes later the drive pops open and a small window asks me if I want to burn another, I say no and flip disk over and burn the label..

When I take the disc to wife system, it say's it is blank, I put it in mine and same thing happens..

I really do not worry about the 3 discs down the drain, I am frusterated that the DVD that came with this system, software that came with this system ,,, does NOT WORK... , being an "off the shelf" system I got NO discs,, like restore, no papers except a receipt, nothing,, NADA, zip,,, my choice is to get it working,,, like no Java came with the home edition, like Windows 95, Mill, Windows 98, Windows XP,, now Gates takes it out and none of the websites I have created over the years work correctly,, according to this machine,,, had to go out and get Java and load it, Mr. Gates is getting cheap in his old age,,, maybe I can sell him the ORIGIONAL disk he gave me to Beta Windows 95,,, back in January 1995 and then donate the buck back to him so he get's the OS correct before down grading it!!! Oh well...

I hope this helps

Okay... we're getting closer now. For backing up your image files to disc, you want to create a plain Data DVD (or CD, depending on the size of the files). You should have an option for Creator Classic with EMC 9 Basic. I would highly recommend opening that, adding your image files, and try burning that way, rather than a slideshow. The slideshow isn't a real backup of your image file, it's a DVD video. So give that a go and see if that writes something successfully that shows up on your wife's computer. Keep in mind this data disc will not be "playable". Though some DVD players will automatically start showing .JPG files if they're found on a disc that' s inserted, don't count on it.

Hope that helps!

OK Frank

I like your "Built for You" system my old Win 98 machine was one of them in 98 $3K and could only hold 384 Meg of RAM!!!

Anyway this is a Compaq Presairo SR 5010, Intel Celeron Processor 360 with 1.5 GB of RAM,, I installed. I am running Vista Home edition,, the DVD drive is a lightscribe or has lightscrib function on it, just one CD drive. I am using Roxio software to try and burn photos to a CD, it forces me to do a Slide Show, I am not doing this through anything from Lightscribe, other than the drive, I have taken a CD-r and tried that,,, no good. I put my full Nero Suite on this machine, no good.. I am using the ROXIO, PHOTOS,, to do the burn..and only time I tried the lightscribe was when I turned the disc over and burned the label, worked great..

Dave, I get NO other option, I click on photos, and it gives me one selection ,,, a slideshow... so that is the WHY for me selection it,, I figured I would learn what else "would burn" after the slideshow but It did NOT burn that,, I think the best thing I can do is take the darned thing back Monday and say I need the restore disc's and let them play with this, just tell them do NOT mess with my data, load all proper drivers,,, and see what happens...

That's because you are starting in the wrong section for what you want to do. From what you have posted, all you want to do is burn some files (that happen to be photo type of files) to a dvd or a cd disc. That is known as burning DATA to a disc. The photo section is to do special things with photos, like slideshows. Click on teh Data section, then select Creator Classic (if it's listed) or select Data disc.

Don't click on Photo... click on Data! Just because your files can be decoded into images doesn't mean they're not data. You want to make a Data disc, even though the data happens to be files that can be viewed as photos.

Perhaps a picture will help? Since you have the 'basic' version, some of these options may not show on your screen. Tell us which one does.

Perhaps a picture will help? Since you have the 'basic' version, some of these options may not show on your screen. Tell us which one does.

Dave D, and Larry,, Thanks all of you,, I really feel like an idiot here, and should have been aware of the potatos I was wanting to copy over even though they are carved up to look great, are STILL potatoes,, I am right now in the DATA selection and will see what I can mess up here, further new will be here in about an hour... Thanks... BTW it is 1327 in Tampa, Florida,,, so about 1430 will post..

Right on guys""

The "DATA" disc burned great, flipped it over and did the thing on the label side, fantastic and I thank you all. If I had a question here it would be, why when I was trying to "make a slide show" would it show me it was burning but nothing on the disc when done?? Maybe that is in the paid full version, which I will now purchase..

Again,,, thanks to all of you..

Glad to hear that worked. Without more information, not sure we can answer that question.

Glad to see that you finally got all your photos burned to a "DATA" disc Mike. smile.gif Once you found "Creator Classic" as one of the programs in your EMC, it was all downhill from there. BTW, your VW sounds like a real "screamer"

Happy to hear you got it worked out.

Did you ever look at the slideshow discs in Windows Explorer to see if it shows any files on them?

Just a guess, but when you go to burn a slideshow like that, it must be rendered into a .MPG video format. Possibly it was still rendering when it died, even though it said it was "burning". We get similar questions with MyDVD about why it takes so long to "burn", and the answer is that if you are going directly to disc, then there is all the rendering time included in the "burn".

Thanks again,,, I really feel dumb here but,,, I'll get over it, I have been wrapped in the digital world since well before the 8088 and BBS systems, I had a 10 node with Deskview and lantastic,,, what a gas, then progressed up to building and then taking pictures with my Canon digital SLR and about 3 lens', an Epson 200x something printer and using Photoshop with a 12X12 Wacom tablet,,, lot's of fun,,, but now I just love sniffing exhause t fumes, I am hoping for the low 600 horsepower, and if I really get lucky a run in the 9's,,, ya can check out the bug at my website if ya like..www.mikehalley.com ... My finners are crossed..

Again THANKS...
