Just got Roxio basic MYDVD9 Premier package. I've tried burning a number of ways, including straight from MYDVD9 to the dvd, and by setting up the dvd with MYDVD9 and then saving it to my hard drive as an ISO file and then from there burning it with the Disc Copier program. The resulting dvd cannot be played on my laptop, which has a 4x dvd-rw player and reads other dvd's perfectly well, nor on set-top dvd players. I get the error message "This media is not supported by Digital Multimedia Experience" when I try to preview the ISO file with that program, and nothing whatsoever comes up through the set-top dvd player.

When the program is encoding the video files it previews perfectly fine, with sound and all, but past that nothing works. My computer recognizes the dvd as a dvd, and it shows it having 4.11 gb's on it, but it will not play. The program seems very simple and easy to use and intuitive, unfortunately the final product does not work for me. Any help would be much appreciated as i'm out of ideas. Thanks

More data: I get two files on the dvd; a file titled "roxioplasma" (not sure the file type) and a folder titled "video_ts". Again, cannot get the dvd to autoplay or to play at all, even using cineplayer or the other programs included with the roxio mydvd9 premier suite.

Then the burn is bad. Try a different brand/type of media.

How do I go about changing the brand/type of media, and which type is most widely supported?

project settings it has type: DVD-Video
Menu Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Standard: NTSC
I have normalize audio levels selected,
Default encoding setting was fit to disc, i've also used "standard play" to no avail. If anyone else has any suggestions they'd be much appreciated, i don't feel like changing default encoding settings to fit to disc or high quality is going to solve anything.

I'm going to try using a sony dvd-r instead of the staples dvd-r i'd been using previously. Takes a few hours to do this, i'll inform what happens

You buy them and feed them to your burner. What gpb is referring to is the type of media, Plus, or Dash as well as the brand.

There are a lot of 'familiar names' out there, that have never made a disc in their existence!

I stick with Verbatium and have never had a problem. Take a trip to the store and buy just a few of both the Plus and Dash type and only get the R media. (RW can be more touchy to read) The Sony's should be fine. They don't make any but hold their suppliers to strict standards.

Otherwise, your descriptions of the steps you are taking seems to be in order…
Dell 8300 3.0ghz 1.5gb RAM 300gb & 200gb HDs
XP Pro/SP2
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 w/AGP8X

In addition to trying other media, try turning off the normalize audio option and see if that helps.
