I wanted to know if anyone has tried the version 1.6 or 2.0 versions of this firmware, and if BD-R/BD-RE's are playing successfully? As I recall, version 1.55 worked fine. I may be running into one of these units again, and I don't want to make any mistakes.
Unfortunately, it sounds like Sony has some fishy things going on with BD-R - want to have a stable player at a minimum, and a platform to suggest for potential clients.
Thanks.
BDP-S1 - firmware 2.00 work with BD-R's?

I couldn't get my 1.5 version to play the -R disks, would only play the RE's.
Then I got the 2.0 upgrade and after much consideration, I installed it. The installation happened without incident and low and behold -R would "play". The menu buttons and functions will not work but the playfirst took over and played.
Good Luck on your end!

I think I was out of town and skipped 1.6 but have been using 2.0 regularly with my Sony BDP-S1 to play my DVDit Pro HD BDMV discs on BD-R, BD-RE and DVD media. (DVDs done without the AACS folder and bit rate kept to 22Mbps/sec average as described elsewhere). My BD-R media has been the excellent Imation inkjet printable discs.
