Hello.

When trying to burn photos to a DVD, Roxio won't do it.  HOwever, it can burn to a CD with no problem.  When I put in a DVD, the screen keeps saying that I have 600MB or so over b/c it thinks I have a CD, but really have a DVD. It will burn for about 5 minutes and then say there is some problem. I have tried multiple companies with multiple brand new discs. It is now really really making me mad that before it could do this and now Roxio has more problems. Please advise. I hate this product if it can't do simple things.

BJ
1GB RAM
750 GB hard drive
1 DVD ROM to burn
Pentium D speed
using Roxio 9

This is what I get:

Recording error
Recording errors can occur when a disc contains dirt, fingerprints, or scratches.

If you are getting recording errors:

Try using a new disc.
Try using a different manufacturer’s disc.
Ensure the disc is clean before recording:
Remove all fingerprints, dirt, and dust from the shiny side of your disc using a nonabrasive cloth with a mild, nonabrasive soap solution.
Wipe the disc from the center to the edge.
Dry the disc completely.  :angry2:

Not that this will help your Roxio problem, but I had a dvd burner go slowly bad on me last year. (2004 comp, dvd died 2006) I replaced it when I started getting bad disc after bad disc. Different brands did make a slight difference in the rate, but the problem (in my case) was a bad burner. Replaced it and had no more problems.

Hello.

BJ, this will require you to open your computer and possibly remove the DVD burner to locate the exact model number. I had no luck finding the firmware at HP. Their server was having an issue.

First off, you do not need to open your pc to get your drive information.Since you said you have version 9, simply go to Start -> Programs -> Roxio 9 -> Tools and open the Disc and Device Utility. That will list all of your drives, including their current firmware version (it's under Drive Properties).

Those links are only relevant for the labeling engine for lightscribe, and updating those only effects burning the label side of the discs. They have nothing to do with the ability to burn data or the firmware of the drive.

You can either trust wholly in EMC9  unsure.gif or take a little extra time to properly identify the drive. EMC9 did not properly identify my DVD drive, and thus caused me headaches for a day.

As I wrote, I could not find the firmware on the HP website. I provided those links because I noted the following in the description of Lightscribe System Software: "The LightScribe System Software (LSS) is required for proper operation of your LightScribe system. Updates are released regularly to support new hardware or recently introduced LightScribe CDs and DVDs, and will ensure optimal and reliable operation of your LightScribe Labeling system."

This is why you need to properly identify the drive. I have found multiple firmware updates, each for a different DVD drive.

You have fully justified your reasoning as to why you need to correctly identify your drive to prevent LightScribe labeling errors.

Now if the OP had a labeling error your posts would be relevant! As it stands he does not…

I justified why you should properly identify the drive for firmware. "I have found multiple firmware updates, each for a different DVD drive." The point is, regardless of what you intend to update, knowing the exact model of your drive will help you pinpoint what you need faster.

Not that we don't appreciate others helping, there is no reason get all testy.  I agree with James. Without further information, you're just stabbing in the dark. The information that you provided may or may not be relevant.

Personally, I'm leaning more toward what DJ posted.  The poster points out that it did work before and now it doesn't. Plus he tried several other options,  too. Most likely the 2 year + old drive is going bad.

True, it could be a drive going bad. However, Bubbard posted that quote in post #4. I see a lot of posts that tell people to go look for new firmware. I went a step beyond that and went looking for the firmware for him. And I also came across other updates for lightscribe. But then individuals want to argue with me about the relevancy of what I found, in the meantime ignoring to post anything of substance in this thread.
