THERE WAS A
SORRY!!!!
Buffer Underrun was not spelled correctly in the first communication
I have a PowerMac G4, 1.25GHZ
768MB of Ram
OS 10.3.9
Lacie D2 Lightscribe DVD Burner
Toast 6.1.1
When I attempt to burn a CD/DVD +or-, the burn stops at some point between start and finish.
I have lowered to speed to 1x, checked off the buffer underrun feature and I still get the
following error message from the toast software:
"The drive reported an error
sense key=illegal request
sense code=0x21, 0x02
buffer underrun.
Thanks for taking a look see, I hope that someone has a
solution they might share.

I'm not sure what would cause buffer underrun errors regardless of whether you burn CDs or DVDs. Since this is a Firewire drive (right?) it could be a problem with the OS. It is too common that incremental system updates (such as from 10.3.8 to 10.3.9) can cause bizarre USB and Firewire behavior. The fix is to download and apply the Combined System Updater from Apple's support site. You'll be installing the 10.3.9 combined update on top of your existing 10.3.9. My hunch is this will fix the problem.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

After the download of the combined OS10.9.3, I was able to burn a CD.
when I attempted to burn a DVD, I got a different error message:
The drive reported an error
Sense Code Key=Medium Error
Sense Code=0x0C
WRITE ERROR
I remember reading somewhere in The Community about trying
different hi quality DVD blank discs, until you find one that works.
There was also a warning about Memorex, well it was an 8.5GB
DVD+R Memorex that prompted the new error message. I am on
my way to seek those other topics,
Thanks Again

I'm glad it's working better. I've never read a post by someone who successfully used a Memorex DVD+R DL disc. The DL media that work best is Verbatim.

Moving Right Along...
Even after employing Verbatim media, there were still a FEW
glitches using Toast 6 with the Lacie Firewire DVD burner...
I replaced my Seagate 80 GB boot HD/2MB Buffer with a Seagate 320GB HD/16MB Buffer
Installed an internal Pioneer DK 111 DVD burner in the empty optical drive bay, dis-connected
the Lacie Firewire DVD burner.
I NEVER HAD ANOTHER PROBLEM, (Over 60 DVD's,) Burning DVD's, NO COASTERS!!!!
Not Put Down On Lacie, Just Sharing A What Happen...
Happy New Year
PS,
I Have burned SEVERAL Memorex DVD+R DL disc's
The new set-up seems to have no objection to the
DVD DL brands I have used which are;
Verbatim
TDK
Memorex
