This is my first authoring tool but I tried Nero7 and I did not remember the program to be so slow.

In MYDVD, adding video takes half a minute, changing the content of a menu takes also long before it is updated in the left hierarchical pane. It feels very very slow and unresponsive in the Preview program.

Is is normal ?? (and no my AV is off)
Does my ATI X300SE (basically a 9000 card) not strong enough (considering the rendering option is set to "hardware") ??

As for the moment it works but it feels like the old days of trying Win95 on a P100 :)

I don't know what the rest of your system is like but I've had no problems with the X300 card.  It's not the greatest but it's better than many proprietary ones.
I can't compare this to Nero 7 (don't have it) but 6.6 was pretty fast.  I think MyDVD is slower in 8 than in 7.5 but I don't find it to be painfully slow by any means.  Not on my systems. How about the encoding process?  Is that slow too?

I only tried building a DVD (adding videos and menus). I did not tried the final encoding and burning process.

It doesn't sound 'normal' for your system. I have an older AMD ATHLON 3000+ and although screen updates flashes a few times, by no means does it seem slow.

Make sure you have DirectX 9.0c and the latest drivers for the video card.

I've a perfectly clean and up to date system. EMC is the first software that let me doubt about my computer  :)

Make sure the hard drive is set for DMA and check the Dell website for any updates to the motherboard chipset drivers.  Sometimes these drivers are updated to optimize hard drive and memory chip input/ouput.

No problem with that.

At the current time, I just loaded a project and the central  screen is black most of the time  :)

For example, switching from the intro menu to the main menu takes 15/30 sec, is it normal ??

Killing the background process VCGPRoxyFilemanager.exe speed up the process even if it is not something to do ...

OK, I checked my bios and went from quiest mode to performance mode, I won a few secs (with VCGxx.exe enabled).

Still, not so fast but usable  :)
