I have 4 hours and 55 minutes worth of video that I am trying to fit onto one Dual Layer (DL) DVD.
I have gone through and carefully edited the video so that it will fit on the DL disc.
Toast shows that it will fit on a DL DVD.
When I "Save as Disc Image" I end up with a .toast file too big for a DL DVD.
That's problem #1
"No problem" I thought, "I'll use the much-touted 'Fit to DVD' feature"
Except that it appears that Toast won't "Fit to DL DVD" it will only fit to a regular DVD, not a DL DVD, so instead of getting a little compression, I'm getting a LOT.
So that's problem #2.
"No problem" I thought, I'll use VisualHub to make the mpegs (which is what I am working with) into .vob files.
Except that when I drag vob files to the Toast window, it wants to make them into a "playlist" instead of a video DVD.
So that's problem #3.
Really if I can solve problem #1 the rest of it doesn't really matter.
Any help appreciated.

Toast making image too big for DVD?

Have you reduced the bit rate settings in Toast's Custom Encoder window to get the video to fit a DL disc? If you set the average bit rate at 3.5 mbps and the maximum bit rate about 4.5 mbps and the audio bit rate at 128 kbps you may be able to Save as Disc Image and get a disc image file that fits a DL disc. If it is still too large you'll need to lower the settings further.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Nope, all I did was tell it I was using a DL disc and then put enough video into it that would fit on a DL disc.
For the world's most expensive DVD burning software, you'd think they could handle something as simple as fitting video that they say fits on a DVD onto a DVD.
I ended up making it with VisualHub which compressed it to fit on one regular DVD and still looks pretty good.
I may try it again with Toast to see if the quality is any better. I would like to have some menus on it.
Thanks for the reply.
