Hello,

I can't start any of the Roxio components of EMC 9 without being connected to the internet.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

OS is Vista Ultimate 32 bit.

Please let me know.

Thanks!

I remember that one of the manufacturers modified the program to force this. Did you get your program with a computer or with some equipment?

The normal EMC 9 does not require internet access once it and the mpg codec is activated. You need an connection - just once - doesn't even have to be that computer. See the activation section of the forum.

Contact Dell and ask why they "fixed" the program that way. rolleyes.gif

Well,

In this case Dell has indicated that they have NOT "fixed" the program. I have the retail version on a Roxio CD titled Roxio Creator & MyDVD 9.0 Premier.

Huh???

In one post you said: "EMC 9 came with my computer - Dell". Now you say You have a Retail version…

Yet the symptoms you describe are only occurring with the Dell OEM version.

Did you install the retail version OVER your OEM version?

I too have Creator & MYDVD 9.0 Premier on my new Dell (I ordered it with XP rather than Vista).
My Creator will open without internet connection.

This version is not an OEM as such. We had to pay extra to have Roxio Creator&DVD 9.0 Premier installed by Dell. Evidently, we both assumed that it was a retail version. But as it turns out, it is a "crippled" version of 9. Roxio wants me to upgrade.

I searched high and low for Label Maker on my version but couldn't find it. Only after I burned a disc did Roxio Express Labeler come up. Again, a crippled version. They want me to upgrade. And according to Roxio, v.9 Label Maker will not open labels created with my v.6. BUMMER

James let me try to clarify:

EMC9, Creator Premier was ordered through Dell
It came pre-installed on the Dell system
It came with a Roxio EMC9 Software CD
Dell has indicated that it is the retail and not the OEM version (don't know if this is true or not)
I have done several clean uninstalls and installs per Roxio, Roxio Forum Members, and Del procedures none of which have resolved the issue

The following components are installable via the CD:

Drag-To-Disc
Creator Audio
Creator BDAV Plugin
Creator Copy
Creator Data
Creator Premier
Creator Tools
EasyArchive
Express Labeler
MyDVD Premier
Update Manager

Here is what is listed in the Help/About tab:

RayTV,

Labeler is listed in the main menu under tools and is fully accessible in my version (when connected to the internet).

My version does not and has not requested any upgrades.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have found that it may not need internet connection but only a network connection.

Connected to the network and internet the application opens.

Disconnected from the network and the internet the application crashes, will not reach the splash screen, and displays the error message as posted above.

Connected to the network and the internet with complete application blocking through the firewall the application opens.

Disconnected from the network and the internet with firewall application blocking on or off the application crashes with noted error message.

Any comments and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Even tho Dell may have supplied the full version, it's still possible they have included the 'connect to internet' module that they use for the cut-down version

Why they did this is a mystery to all of us really
