When I try to copy/burn a homemade DVD to another disc, this warning comes up with a ! in a yellow yieldlike sign.
"Your recording device does not support writting to DVD media. This option is not available with your current recorder. I have windows XP. And CDS burn just fine with Roxio easy CD & DVD burning. And I can play DVDs using real player.

Please Help,
Thanks Chris sad.gif

Question is, do you have a dvd burner or just one that plays dvd's. Just because you can burn audio cd's does not mean you can burn dvd's. Please post the specs on your cd/dvd drive.

Thank you for your reply, and help. It's a 2001 dell computer, and I can't find specs, yet in trouble shooting or menu it doesnt mention anything about recording dvds, yet it does mention playing dvds. Your probably correct, I guess my next move is to get a new dvd drive? Do I just need it for the drive I am recording too, e drive, I know that might sound like a no brainer, yet, I am quite computer illiterate. blink.gif
Thanks so very much for your excellent help

You can find out what type of drive you have a few ways. Right click My Computer and choose Properties. Click the Hardware tab then Device Manager. Click the + next to DVD/CD-ROM Drives. Your drive(s) will be listed there. Post that and we'll be able to tell you what your drive is capable of.
There are other ways but since you say you are computer illiterate, we'll take it a step at a time.
DVD recordable drives are very inexpensive but if you don't have a friend to help you, it's best to pay someone to do it for you if you're not comfortable doing so.

Thanks for your help. For the D drive it states HL-DT-ST DVD-Rom GDR8163B. And for the E drive it states Sony CD-RW CRX216E

Your D drive is not a DVD writer, it only plays cd's and dvd's Your E drive WILL write to CD's ONLY and not DVD's.
So, if you buy a new drive and get a DVD writer, it will read and write DVD's and cd's.
I'm sure the stores will have 'Labor Day Sales' this weekend so check them out.

I am having a beer giving you a toast for great the great help you have given me. rolleyes.gif
However unsure.gif There might be some D and E drive confusion in your advice.
I was planning on replacing the E drive, the sony CD one. I have purchased a liteon superallwrite to replace the E drive, the one that will be recorded too. Is this correct?
By the way You rock, and I am very grateful, and am having a cold one now. Thanks cool.gif

rolleyes.gif smile.gif and thanks for being very cool in speaking with someone like me. cool.gif

You have helped more than you know, I will have a good taste, Psalm 34:8 of good word and another beer.
I VERY Much appreciate your help, I will let you know, how it goes, I'm going to replace the e-drive tommorow, unless you recomend cool.gif otherWISE. D drive is just a player, correct?
Thanks and listening to great advice, has been a privilege.

Thanks for the praise but it's not necessary. I'm glad to be of some help.
There's no need to replace both drives unless they are bad. I suggest replacing the dvd rom since it can't write to dvd's and leave your cd writer where it is. You'll then have a dvd writer (that can also write to cd's) and a cd writer.
Let me know how things work when you've installed the drive.
