How do I get an AVI file to convert so thaty I can burn to dvd or cd (I hope for dvd). I have a retail verxion of emc9.

If you want it to be dvd compliant, simply import it into MyDVD and burn. Videowave can also encode to a dvd compliant file but unless you want to edit it and add transitions, MyDVD is what you need to use as a standard dvd.

I tried this and it just stayed on burn project all night. It did nothing. I am using dvd-rw should I use dvd+rw

By that do you mean that the progress sat at 0% ? If so, update your video drivers (from the mfgr site, like Nvidia or ATi, not from MS).

After you've updated the drivers as Larry suggests, if you still have trouble, try burning to an image file instead of direct to disc. If the image file is successfully done, then use Disc Copier to copy that ISO to a disc.
