Whenever a patch comes out you'll need to have V9 installed to update it so install away.

I have paid £50 for software that is unuasable.

but I did buy it because you said it was vista combatable.

I think you are saying you bought it for a Vista computer ("...because you said it was vista combatable"), but want to install it on XP computer then when update comes out move it to the Vista computer ("...install it on my xp cpu while I wait for update?").

I do not remember the EULA for EMC 9.0, but most software allows you to move it from one computer to another (to be in complaince with EULA, need to un-install from first computer). If the EULA for EMC allows this, then you should be ok to install it on the xp computer, then when the update comes out, un-install it from the xp computer, install it on the vista computer, then apply the update.

You might start the installation on the xp computer and you should get the EULA screen before the installation continue, this will allow you to review the conditions outlined in the EULA to see if it does allow for moving from one pc to another, if so - continue the installation, if not - cancel the installation process.

I hope I understood your question correctly.
