I used an old version of EZCD Creator classic for years, and it erased my DVD+RW's 100% of the time.  No failures.  The erase typically took just a few minutes.  A bit longer than the EMC9  "quick erase" but much shorter than the "long".

I have used EMC9 for two months now...and the quick erase has failed to erase about 25% of the time on various discs that have worked fine with the older version.
I have no other burning issues...it says something like erase not successful, check for fingerprints, scratches, bad disc, etc......  So then if I try  long erase, which takes almost a half hour, THEN it seems to work.

So what is going on here?  The ancient version did it just fine.  Do I have to use the half hour long erase method every time now???

I would only use it in cases where the Quick Erase doesn't work.  Maybe those discs are reaching the end of their lives.

Don't know what you are doing to your discs but I have about 10 RWs that are averaging over 100 write/erases over the last 3+ years and never had a problem. – (actually in V6 I did have a problem and lost 2 DVD RW's)

You go through a lot of write/erases when trying to duplicate user problems!

One thing though, all of my discs are good quality, TDK Verbatim etc.

I had a set of Memorex CD-RWs that averaged 50 write/erase cycles before failing. But while a few went to 100 cycles, many failed at 3!!!

Not doing anything different to them than I was when I was using them with my old version of Roxio as I said above.  I too had many years with no issues on the old Roxio software.  Seems rather coincidental that problems started with the new Roxio software. My DVD+RW's are name brand also.

But if it is not typical, I will try a few brand new DVD+RW Verbatim's (that is what I use for all DVD+R's) and if THEY have any problems, then I know there is an issue.

My Panasonic Recorder fowled up a DVD-RW last night!

After that it wouldn't read it, wouldn't format and didn't seem to like me very much…

I used Roxio V9 to erase the disc in my PC and the Recorder was then happy format it again. That particular disc has been in continuous use since 5/04.
