vcr to dvd please help

do I have to download a whole movie to a pc file to copy it to a dvd? I am trying to copy from my vcr to dvd.

Also so far I haven't been able to copy one dvd because every one of them are protected. If I download them can I burn them to dvd????
help I'm lost

Basically, yes you need to copy or capture to your hard drive whatever you want to put on a DVD disc.

As for copying DVD's, those sound like they are probably ones you've purchased if they are copyright protected. No Roxio/Sonic product will copy those discs as that would be in violation of copyright protection laws. You sound like you are pretty new to working with video and dvd's, so a good site that may have some useful information for you would be www.videohelp.com if you want to check it out.
