I have installed Roxio Creater 9 on my Vista Business. If I am not connected
to the internet(I have to go through a authentication-based proxy server), I
cannot run Roxio Creator and it simply crashes with Vista giving the option
of reporting etc. But when I am connected, it works fine. Please note that
this problem is not resolved by the driver patch meant to solve the driver
incompatibility problem.
Thanks!

It sounds like you have an OEM version that came with the computer. The retail and download versions don't have that problem.
Life is good!

While the retail version is not required to be online to work, every program within EMC9.0 retail attempts to connect to the internet from my computer. When I denied a couple of the programs access, EMC9 closed down. After a reboot and checking my firewall to ensure the programs were blocked, I restarted the programs and they worked normally. Why all the EMC9 programs try to connect to the internet is beyond me.
Easy Media Creator...so much for truth in advertising.

Looking for updates?
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
