situation:  new machine, vista home premium.

loaded v.9 and gave me errors.  contacted roxio, got it to load and all was wonderful ... could use the program(s) with no troubles.  biggrin.gif

haven't used EMC now in two weeks.

when I had EMC 9 on my XP machine, it was wonderful and I found I like the product a lot and my experience with EMC on Vista has been satisfactory until now.

last night after Vista updated it self automatically, EMC will not start.  I receive a message effectively saying "roxio application failed to start, windows will return related information if available."  (note: Drag to disk still appears to work but have not tried it.)

guess what, no info.   sad.gif

anyone got a clue?  did MS screw something up again?

I have read a number of posts where people are told to uninstall, clean uninstall and then reinstall their applications.  Have also read where some are having to re-install the OS just to keep it working.  Unsat.

I am a software person so I understand when there are issues and delays, but I absolutely abhore uninstalling and reinstalling applications when something like this happens.   angry.gif

can anyone post an idea of the cause and a solution (and don't tell me to upgrade to 10 unless it is free).

P.

Try uninstalling Drag to Disc from the control panel and see if that fixes the problem

not sure I understand.  Un-install the one part of EMC 9 that appears to be working and then see if everything else will come back?

D2D is best not to be used in the Vista environment, since Vista has its own form of packet writer.

That's why he's suggesting to uninstall the Sonic version.
When in doubt, reinstall.
If it installs, it's supported.

D2D is the one that caused problems in the Vista installation - the fact that it apparently works could be a red herring

You can always re-install it afterwards if you really want to, but, as Vista has its own built-in packet-writing program for DVD and CD, there's not a lot of point (pause for a post telling just how unreliable packet writing is, especially on RW media wink.gif )

It could be something else causing it (Vista update, something else installed - it's hard to point a finger)

The problem is that programs don't normally stop working for no reason so it looks as if you have (unfortunately) to go through the whole uninstall/clean install routine unless you can find out just what went on the system immediately prior to it stopping to work

You could always try a repair installation first from add/remove programs - that might work

well, here is another surprise.  I just started Roxio  and now it works.  I haven't used the computer since the other day when I posted.

the only thing new is I installed Dragon Naturally speaking 9 just before I tried to start EMC (on a whim).

Now if I can just work out WHY plugging a MS joystick in has stopped my USB Audio Codec radio modem from transmitting on PSK32 and receiving or transmitting on Slow Scan TV........... wink.gif

EMC - Easy Media Creator

I do not have a Dell, it is a HP Pavillion dv2000 (2315).

as I posted a litte later, after I remove draged to disk it didn't fix it BUT,thenext time I rebooted every thing worked fine.

So, you're saying you didn't reboot after removing D2D, and EMC didn't work?  But once you did reboot, EMC worked?  I'd say uninstalling D2D was a good part of the solution.
