I have reisntalled EMC 9 at least 6 times using ideas that Roxio support has told me to do but the system runs so slowly I think it is hung but low and behold 15-20 minutes later it appears if I leave it alone. I have XP Pro. I even removed Nortin I.S. but that did't matter. Anybody know a fix. Roxio support is not particularly interested in tracking this down it seems.

OK - first of all, what are your system specs (CPU, speed, amount of RAM and graphics)

Have you run a spywate sweep on the system (note - spyware is not the same as a virus sweep)

Have you defragmented your hard drive - and how much free space is left?

Did you shut down any background running apps?
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

I've got a P4 2.26Ghz cpu with 2GB of ram and a 500GB hard drive. I have had no apps running and disabled startup items as instructed by Roxio. I've had Norton doing what it does. Not sure aboutt he spyware. I've just installed Kapersky's I.S. after running out of patience with Symantec.

Try downloading and running Lavasoft's Adaware SE or Spybot S&D (both free for personal use)

Between them they do catch a lot of stuff that's lurking on any computer that wanders off on the net wink.gif

Things to try - as I said defrag the hard drive and also, go to control panel, system, advanced and in the 'Performance' tab - select 'set for best performance' in 'visual effects

Also, make sure that your pagefile (In same advanced, performance tab) is set to a minimum of 4 GB

The graphics is also crucial in any video work - make sure you have the latest drivers and also the latest DirectyX from MS (that is no longer part of Windows update - you have to go get it yourself)

Thanks for the reply. I have Diskeeper installed and running so fragmentation is not a problem. The page file is set to 4GB. I updated the video driver. i'll check on DirectX. I have a copy of Webroot's Spy Sweeper that I can reinstall now that Norton is gone.

Could you explain exactly what you are trying to do when the system "hangs". Your specs appear to be more than adequate except for the video which you did not list.

For starters the eval version worked just fine. So I bought EMC 9. Roxio Central takes forever (20 to ? min) so I just ignore it. MyDVD will open properly and I can load my saved project (from eval). I can do little things like change the background but as soon as I do something that needs another program like add a sideshow or import the system just sits there with the hourglass. I have no problem like this with any other product. At that point I can go into Windows tasl manager and turn off RoxMediaDB9 and eventually MyDVD will go away (about 30 seconds).
My video card is a Geforce with NVIDIA software which has been updated. Don't have the exact specs available right now.

Too bad you didn't mention RoxMediaDB9 in your first post glare.gif or read the pinned posts at the top of the General Discussion forum. The following link might clear up your problem: turn off RoxMediaDB

This is an integrated video card and I know it could be improved but I am a loss to why that woud be causing the Roxio problem since all other programs are not affected. Pleae explaing.

Because the Roxio software requires the video card to use certain portions of DirectX 9 that your Geforce 2 doesn't support.

Did you try what I suggested in my post to turn off MediaWatch?
