Like a lot of you I was really looking forward to Vista. I've made a tremendous effort and spent a significant amount to upgrade/replace systems that had worked fine under XP but were lacking under the graphically intense Vista interface. In the end I'm right back where I was this time last year. Running Windows XP Pro on four desktops and one laptop. I must admit, XP really runs good on a dual-core 4600+ with 8500GT video, 3GB RAM and a RAID.  ;>)

I've actually found myself booting to Vista more than XP lately and on my system. I really don't notice much of a difference for what I do but I would not spend time bragging to anyone to change.  If it wasn't given to me for  beta testing, I wouldn't have purchased it for a while most likely.

It's simple for geeks that build their own system (include me) but completely impractical for "normal" folks.   Have you been in a Best Buy or Circuit City or looked at the Dell website this year?    Vista is the ONLY option.   It's getting tiresome for people on this site to keep saying "XP" instead of offering usable advice or simply being quiet if you aren't providing help instead of opinions.

Actually Dell will supply XP if you lean on them a bit (they did a deal with MS to allow them to do that for customers who asked for it). However, in general, MS is leaning heavily on OEMs not to supply XP but to push Vista
