sorry to all for my ignorance, but how do I burn a BDMV disc for PS3 playback?

you simply create a project in DVDit Pro HD and play it back.  you do, however, need to install the PS3 patch in the sticky post at the top of this forum to get discs to work in PS3

the patch worked great for ps3 but how about playback on the sony 300 ?

Unfortunately, you might have to wait for a firmware update for that.

no, Sony 300 doesn't support BDMV on BD-R.  Apparently, however, you can do BDMV on DVD-R (single or dual layer) with that machine.  watch your max bit rate though.  I wouldn't go beyond 20,000 kbs
