It would be backup to file, as the software looks at it just like a disk drive. Just chose file and then select the drive letter for the media drive.

Also did you go here and get the update for BUMP supplied by HP.

It does not come up as a drive letter when you select backup to file? The options list will be file or a CD/DVD drive. It will not list the media drive specifically. Select file then the drive letter which is the media drive.

the problem is only my dvd/cd writer comes up in that list. no other drive letters appear. my media drive is L but only 1 choice comes up. i know the drive works fine in other back up software i have tried. i think this may be another vista surprise. i tried downloading the latest version from roxio but same results. even tried uninstalling media drive again.

Something happened with my reply, I also had a pointer to an update at HP. Go to HP support and put in your HD3000S name and search. They have an update for BUMP.

Also, if you select a file backup, it will not have your CD/DVD drive as an option to backup to.

I just purchased a HP Pocket Media Drive with the Roxio, MyPC software installed in the device. I had the exact same problem. However, after spending over 2 hours on the phone with HP tech support and getting absolutely no help, I found this discussion group. Should have come here first.

Neither of you mentioned whether or not you had "Hard Disk Drive" as one of your backup locations along with the CD Drive. I did. After reading the responses from Roxio on this page I went back and tried to find the "File" option. Mine didn't have the option in the drop down menu. So I just selected Hard Disk Drive, then located my newly created F Drive (the pocket media drive) and selected that. The F Drive was now selected as the location to where the back files would be going. 1-2-3 and 3 hours later, my entire C drive was backed up.

Good Luck!

P.S. Forgot to mention I am using Windows XP HE

I had same problem with HP 3000s. HP was no help. Roxio was no help. Then I discovered the destination option for the Media Drive Z was actually available when choosing HARDDRIVE. Choose Harddrive and another box opens below it with a Browse folders option.

You have to drop the menu from the pop up until you see your Media drive as an option and click on it to set it as your backkup destination.

After two hours on phone with HP....no help, and hours without success from Roxio, the user guide was the only clue. It doesn't spell it out directly, so you have to make an educated guess on how to make it work.

My backup now works as expected.
