I am using EMC 7.0 on an XP, and have not had a problem until today.

I am not able to burn files to a CD. The program demands that I put a recordable disc in the drive. Yet, when I copy a CD, there is no problem, and I can copy files to a DVD without problem. All to the same drive.

Has anyone seen, and corrected this problem?

Thanks,

Which program are you using in EMC 7?

I am using EMC 7 DVD creator build 7.1.0.183 enu, on an XP platform.  This has not been a problem before; but, if it can copy a disc, I would think that the hardware is working.

Clearly, you are not understanding the questions we are asking to try to pinpoint the problem.

We don't know if you are using Packet-Writing (Drag2Disc), where you format the disc and eventually lose all of the data; or if you are unintentionally using the built-in WinXP ability to write Sessions-based discs, or what.

Please describe every step you are taking, in excruciating detail.  blink.gif

Use Creator Classic instead.

Lynn

I launch the basic program, and select copy files to disc.

I then select some files and drag them to the data disc project window.

I then hit burn

The burn progress screen comes up and directs me to put an unformatted disc into the drive

It confirms that I have a blank CD-R disc

I hit burn, and get the screen asking me to insert a blank disc, and the disc pops out.

If I Use copy data disc (the selection above copy files to disc), everything works properly.

(I attempted to send screen shots, but they would not copy into this post).

You have yet to answer which specific program you are using so this isn't going to be easy… At this point one would assume you are using Classic.

There are only 2 things that will cause this sort of a problem. IE7 and your Burner.

If you have Internet Explorer 7 it will wreck EMC7! Easy to check – go to the top of your browser and click Help – About Internet Explorer. What is the version number?

Your next step is to locate and apply any Firmware Updates for your Burner. This is the primary reason and most probably fix for this error.

In help about it is called "Roxio easy media creator 7 Basic DVD" so I have been calling it basic. If this is also classic I will refer to it that way from now on; but, I believe you have nailed the problem.

I do indeed use Internet Explorer 7. Is the program permanently wrecked, or is there a work around?

Thanks,

You have to uninstall IE7, and if you have Windows Media Player 11, you have to uninstall that, too.

If you see a program called Creator Classic, in your version of EMC 7, use that software for burning, after you get rid of IE 7 and WMP 11, if you have WMP 11 installed.
