I am using Avid DVD by Sonic (aka DVDit Pro HD) version 5.7 but have had trouble importing 16:9 QT reference files.
They will import normally but will not display properly in the Preview window. Even when the 16:9 selection is made in the "Attributes" menu the display does not change. When viewed outside of the program in Quicktime the files are sized properly.
I would really like to use the encoding engine in Avid DVD by Sonic, but until I can resolve my 16:9 display issue this isn't possible.
Any thoughts, tips or ideas as to why this is happening? I admit to being very new to the product but I have been able to learn much in a short period of time.
Thanks for any feedback you can give on the matter...

Few things...
You may just be seeing a quirk in the program. the first time you drag the 16:9 video from the palette onto the timeline it shows up as 4:3 letterbox. if you create another timeline with the same video, it should properly show the preview window as 16:9....unless it is having issues with your reference file for some reason.
FYI - you don't want to fool with that 16:9 in the attributes window to change the aspect ratio. in this case, i you do, you are likely to get black bars at the top and bottom or a stretched out frame. I would rename that reference file, or re-output it with another name before importing it again. If DVDit is reading your media as 4:3, something is wrong (right click on the media in the palette and select properties to see what it shows). Are you using 1:1 as an aspect ratio or 16:9?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by creating another timeline with the same video. Are you referring to bringing the same video clip into the project palette a second time?
If I look at the properties of the clip it is showing the aspect ratio as 16:9. I've tried exporting from Avid as 16:9 and "native dimensions" and there's no difference in how it's displayed in the program.

if you flagged your QT reference as 16:9 in the movie attributes window (ie, you changed that value) it is permantly changed for that file and yes, the properties will show it as 16:9. maybe if you close out the program and then delete your video session file it will eliminate that association that was created in the movie attributes window...not sure.
anyway, what is the size of your composition in Avid? 720x480 with a .9 PAR? or something else? did you try making two timelines in Avid DVD from the asset? (you can delete one after it is created) does it still show incorrectly in the preview window?

I did not change the aspect ratio within Avid DVD. It is properly flagged as 16:9 without me doing anything.
The project is typical SD (720x480) video in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
I am not sure what you mean by making two timelines in Avid DVD.
Are you referring to bringing the clip into the project palette twice?
If so, then I have not tried that.
