I transfer programs from Tivo to my Mac with  no problem, and last week was able to burn them onto a DVD. Now, I insert the DVD, press record, it looks as if it's going to encode and then it hangs on ENCODING 0% completed forever.

The program that I've transferred to encode and burn is a .tivo program and works fine in the Toast Media Player, so I know that it transferred intact.  I got really frustrated and bought VirtualHub, thinking that it was Toast. Well, the same thing happened. It stalled and did not encode - no error messages. Just nothing happens.

I have deleted the pref and plist roxio files and have deleted the program and re-installed it, but that didn't do anything.

Does anyone have any ideas about what could be going wrong?

Thanks,
Anne

MORE INFORMATION: The files I'm trying to burn are 3.5-3.8 GB, and I've tried to both encode to burn and encode to save as disc image. Neither works. So I transferred another file that is 1.5 GB to my computer to do a test and it starts encoding right away. Why? Why? Why please?

maybe the issue is on the file itself since two different software have the same issue.

I'm having the same problem with it hanging on the encoding process and I have no idea why it's not encoding but deciding to hang up instead.  I've tried this on both a "large" 2.5 GB file and a small 200 MB file and file size doesn't seem to matter.  I'm only trying it on only on one of my Macs and I don't have the time or patience right now to trouble shoot by trying it on another computer, etc.  I was hoping to find a solution here on the forum...but no luck.

One variable that has changed that I can think might be a reason for the issue since I last burned a DVD from a TiVo file is the Fall 2007 TiVo update that I received a week ago.  No idea if that could affect it or not but it's a thought.

This is ticking me off.  To be honest, Toast 8 and TiVoToGo have been a disappointment.

I too am seeing the stuck-during-encoding problem.  In my case, it is happening on a file that was TIVOed *after* the Fall 2007 TiVo update that I only just received a day ago.  I also notice that the post-update file is not appearing correctly in the TiVo Transfer window:  The Title has a bunch of extraneous information in it (it looks like the actual file name rather than the parsed name of the show), and it is not displaying Episode, Channel, or Duration information for that file.

It looks like TiVo screwed us on this update, folks.  One would think that they would work with their partner Roxio to test an update before distribution to see if it broke the file format Toast expects to receive in a Tivo file.  I hate the fact  that we have no control over the acceptance of these "improved" updates.

Questions:

1)  Is this just happening on programs that have been TiVo-recorded after the TiVo Update?  Or is is occurring on anything *transferred* post Update?

2)  Is this universal?  I would strongly suggest anyone who routinely uses Tivo-To-Go make an experimental burn as soon as possible to test the proposition.  Frankly, I hope it is universal, because it will be too easy otherwise for TiVo to ignore the problem.  More to the point:  Can anyone give a single example of a successful transfer and burn post-Tivo Update?

3)  Roxio - are you guys reading this?  TiVo can ignore a few lone voices in the wilderness, but if your partner has now broken a selling point feature of Toast, I think you'd have a better chance of getting their attention.  At the very least, I'm sure you could quickly establish exactly what TiVo broke in the process, and if not fixable with a tweak to Tivo-to-Go on your side, then you could use your contacts with TiVo to tell them that there is a problem.  Could someone Roxio at the very least acknowledge that there actually is a problem?

Similar problem.  I purchased Toast 8 and Popcorn 3 yesterday.  Successfully used Tivotogo to transfer 4 programs overnight.  All 4 play fine in the toast viewer.  I am unable to export 3 of them to iPod code.  1 program encoded without any problem, the other 3 get stuck at 0%.  All files are of the same size and in the same location.  Know anyplace I can go for help if none is available here?

Go to the 1st topic in the list. There is an issue with the Fall Update from TiVo that has messed up the ability of Toast to either convert the files to iPod format or burn them to DVD. Roxio has stated that they are working on a solution. I would suggest using TiVo Decoder. It's an AppleScript that creates an MPEG of your TiVo file (in the same folder) that you can import into iMovie and do whatever you want to with it....

I've had the same problem with some files.  Now it refuses to transfer anything from TIVO - just hangs with the message "0K of 735K - waiting".  I let it go overnight and still nothing happened.  I've tried other files, and restarting the program - same problem.  It was working a few days ago, nothing has changed except the date.

same problem here, file will not export. (what a piece of garbage)
I also tried using Visual Hub, and got garbage with the resulting file.  Used the Ipod best for everything preset.

however....the tivo file plays fine on the tivo player provided by Toast.
