I have a sony DV camcorder. I bought Creator 9 software.
Imported video from cam corder then burned it to DVD disc. quality is rubbish.
have been told by a friend that uses U-Lead version 10. that ther should be a drop down menu giving dv as an imput, mine do's not give me the choice of DV tape

It sounds like you attached your video camera, to the computer, via USB. That won't work. You need to be connected via a firewire cable to capture as DV-AVI files.
Edit: The preceding applies to DV camcorders that use MiniDV tape. If you have a MiniDVD camcorder, then you don't need to capture at all.

Eric, don't buy a cheap firewire cable, and make sure you get one that has the right connections for your camcorder and firewire input on your computer.
A decent firewire cable is going to cost you between $35 and $40.

So both ends of a firewire cable can have different port sizes. One size for the computer and the other end for the camera.

I Have been out today (Oxford, England) to the sony shop and paid £35 GBP for the cable.
Expensive, however what's the point of capturing the moment if you cannot then reproduce and share it with friends & family.
thank you

New Sony i link cable installed, enables me to control sony DCR PC101E, directly from my Vaio laptop.
and gives me the option of DV input.
I have imported video from cam corder to pc. the Quality when replayed on the television DVD player is very good. The import time 60 minutes of film takes 60 minutes (to be expected) however to then burn the same information to a DVD disc also takes 60 minutes approx. is it possible to speed this up?
On another point is it possible to burn from pc to DVD disc without having a menu. So i can just make un edited master copies of my tapes?

It is directly tied to your cpu speed. If you double your cpu speed it will cut the time in half!
If you half your cpu speed, it will take twice as long…
Just a few years ago, my 550 took in excess of 8 hours to do a 1 hour DVD. And if you did anything else while it was running, it took longer!

I am a newbie here myself and can't figure out much, but today I did learn one great thing. I can plug my camcorder into my computer via firewire and use MyDVD to do a direct "plug and burn" to make myself a direct copy with no menus. It was quick and gave me an easy copy to hand over to my son to watch. Now, I just have to figure out how to actually make a movie!
good luck, Gina

Plug & Burn is easy and prone to many failures. Very few people use it.
If you plug your camcorder into a Firewire, Windows will prompt for action and one of the choices is Capture with Media Import.
That puts you on your way to 'making a movie'…
Bring the captured file into VideoWave to do any edits you want and save the project. (dmsm)
Open MyDVD to create the DVD interface you want and Add Title to bring in the VW Project file you saved (dmsm)
Help files in both programs will assist if you read through them.
