I have been asked to help a friend to either remove EMC 7 completely or reinstall it so it doesnt keep interupting his startup. The program is the basic DVD one and was preinstalled on his computer when he bought it a couple of years ago. I am not sure exactly what he did but he tried to uninstall it for some reason and looking at the hard disk virtually all of the files have been removed.

Every time Windows (XP) boots up and reaches the final screen a splash screen appears stating "Windows Installer - Preparing to install" then it says "Please wait while Windows configures Roxio Media Creator 7" and then after a short while it states "Unable to find Certificate File" it then says "There was a problem authenticating your version" but then it goes nowhere until you hit the escape key a couple of times.

We then tried to reinstall using the original disk and it goes through the following screens (1) "Preparing to install" (2) "Welcome to the install wizard for EMC7 Basic Edition" It then looks for space on the hard disk (there is plenty) but then comes back with (3) "Server unable to find Certificate File".

How can I either remove it completely or reinstall it to stop this problem at startup, can anyone help me please?

Try using the Microsoft Cleanup Utility to get rid of all Roxio and Sonic files on your computer, reboot, then try to reinstall.
