I recently installed EMC 10. With previous versions (7, 7.5, 8 and 9) Gracenote worked automatically and searched the internet for artist and album names. With EMC 10 this is no longer the case.

I have tried reinstalling, turning off the firewall, clicking and unclicking the "add artist and file name to path" tick box within options but still no luck.

Windows Media Player however has no such problem.

Grateful if anyone could let me know what it is that is preventing Gracenote from working propoerly in EMC 10.

I haven't had any problems with getting the tags but I remember in V8 there was an issue so that you had to kick start it.. Try putting a commercial CD in one of your drives and then select that to get the tags. Any luck? Which of the several applications are you using to get the tags?

I am using RipCD but have noticed that I cannot get the tags with any of the programmes in EMC 10. As you suggest I have used a commercial CD but it still does not come up with the tag information of artist name and song title. Is there another way of kick starting Gracenote?

Once you have ripped the audio files to your hard drive, select them in Windows Explorer, right click, click edit song information. In the tag editor that opens, select all the files click MusicID. If you are connected to the internet and Gracenotes is working, its icon should appear on your screen for a short time, a progress window should open and (assuming the info is in its database) it should fill in the tags. click the box use MusicID tags if you want to use those, click done.

I have tried your suggestion by selecting one or multiple music files, then right clicking and looking at the menu that comes up. There is no "edit song information" line in the menu that comes up. Only:

Play
Open with
Appearance
Restore previous version
Send to
Cut
Copy
Create shortcut
Delete
Rename Properties

Or have I misunderstood your instructions?

I also tried someting else. I opened EMC 10 and selected Audio Tag Editor. I then selected a music track and clicked the Music ID icon. I got the error message "RxTagEdit10 MusicID open failed".

My understanding of the way Gracenote identifies tracks is that it looks at the entire CD, and looks for a match with the exact same length - total length, and individual track lengths. (Occasionally it will give you a a choice of two matches.) Once the track and the CD are separate - that is, the track has been ripped from the CD - there would be no way to match it up.

If you followed Jean's instructions (or selected the Audio Tag editor) you should have seen the following

I wrote a guide in "Tips and Tricks" try to follow that in renaming audio files.
I should have done it with screen shots.

One thing I didn't include is that you have to put a check on the "embed tag if supported"

V10 has no link for Rename in the Audio section like the V9.

Roxio, in their infinite wisdom blink.gif , hid that function here.

I think the message points to your problem, it can't open MusicID.

Try a repair from add/remove: highlight the Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 Suite entry, click change. Follow the wizard until you get to a screen with the three options: modify, repair, remove. Select repair, click next.

The repair install may ask for the CD or to locate some file(s). If you installed EMC 10 from a download, you will find it convenient first to extract the contents of the downloaded installation file (with Winzip or similar) to a convenient folder. Then when the repair asks for a certain file, browse to where it is in the extracted files.

I think you are right that the message points to the problem. I definitely do not get the menu listed by myguggi above. I just get the ordinary explorer menu. I will attempt to reinstall and see how that goes, and post a reply on how it goes.

Thank you to all of you for your help, and especially jeanrosenfeld. Change/Repair didn't work but Remove and then a fresh install did.

Weird, as I had the same problem with three different computers.
