For purposes of archiving Tivo files, I find myself looking to buy EMC 9.  While perusing eBay, I'm seeing different versions (i.e. EMC 9 Basic, or XE, or DE; some in digital download where they sell you the key and others on CD).  What are the differences please?

Thanks.

Most are OEM versions that are shipped with DVD burners.  Of the lot, I think you'd do better with the XE version if you decide to go that route.  Make sure it's from a reputable dealer.

Can I safely assume there are only two versions: XE and DE?  Or are those the two versions that come OEM with a new PC?  Is the retail version something different than XE or DE?  Again, thanks.

I'm not sure myself as I only have the retail version but I think the XE is bundled with the Mad Dog drives.  I've not seen an OEM version that has everything that the retail version does but then again, I've never used anything but retail.

The DE is the bundle that came preinstalled in my new Dell system. It is a strip down version of version 9. I removed it and installed the full retail version (EMC 9 and updated to 9.1).

I have also seen SE and LE versions. I believe most of these versions are stripped down, partially crippled versions usually bundled with burners or computers. I recommend you get the full retail version which does not have one of these "*E" version extensions

Sounds like good advise.  Thanks.
