In EMC10 is it possible to 'edit' the overly tracks, i.e., cut where needed, add transitions, fade in and out ?

Once the clip has been added to the overlay track you cannot edit it any more. You will have to do all that before using Videowave and outputting to a video file which you then add to the overlay track. You can do fades in/out of the complete overlay clip using the motion setting for the overlay

Videowave treats the overlay tracks differently than the main video track. Something they should change in future versions.

I am not sure what you want to do. But if you add a movie clip or a photo as an overlay, you can do some 'editing' things: You can edit its size and position, and on the timeline, you can adjust the start time. You can also 'trim' the end (but not the start) and you can select from several transition options, such as fade in, fly in from top, whatever, ditto for fadeout.
