Hello,

I recorded video to a DVD-RW using a plain vanilla stand-alone samsung burner, no internal HD. I'd like to copy the RW to a regular R but Toast7's copy feature doesn't like the RW. How can I copy the RW to an R with Toast7?

Thanks,
Jaeson

Did the DVD-RW disc get finalized on the Samsung standalone recorder? Or did you record the disc using the Samsung's VR mode. If it is the latter, insert the DVD-RW and choose DVD with the top button of Toast's Media Browser. You then can add the content of the VR-mode disc to the Toast Video window (choose DVD video as the format). From this point use Toast to prepare a menu and then burn your video DVD.

If this is a video-mode disc and not a VR-mode disc then it must be finalized. If it is finalized the Copy window should have worked. Try this as a workaround: With the source DVD selected in the Copy window choose Save as disc image from the Toast File menu. When that is done, choose the disc image using the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window to burn your DVD copy.

I did a finalize on my RW but it doesn't work with the regular COPY option in Toast. I'll have to try the Media Browser path you suggested. I have not used that before or created menus with Toast. How do I go about that?

Thanks,

I thought of something else to try. Choose DVD video from VIDEO_TS in the Video window. Add the VIDEO_TS folder from your DVD-RW and then choose Save as Disc Image from the File menu. Or you can copy the VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD-RW in the Finder to your hard drive and add it to the Toast Video window. Don't worry about any AUDIO_TS folders. Those are empty and Toast automatically creates one when it burns the video DVD.

Using the Media Browser to extract any MPEG video files on the DVD is a good process to learn if you ever want to create a different menu then what the Samsung recorder creates. The menu-creation process is explained in Toast Help in describing how to make a video DVD.
