Make sure the images on both sides of the transitions are more then the transition. If you have an image set to 2 seconds and want to have a two second transition, then the images before and after the transition will display for only 1/2 of its duration - one second. .

If you haven't updated your video card drivers lately, do so.

I put together a production with just pictures and the transition this is working some what. It still will not let me set the duration of the transition completely. Like if I want them to be a smooth 5 second it would seem like it defaults back something like 2.27 seconds or what ever. It seems like I should be able to set the transitions and pictures to any duration I want.

What you are describing usually happens when the duration of the clips/images on either side of the transition is too short. In the example you gave, what are the durations of the those? Does it happen with all transitions or only certain ones? What version of EMC 9 are you using? Is it the full retail version or a version that came with a burner or was pre-installed?

Now I am noticing that it is only effecting the ones I put at the beginning of the production and the end. I can change the ones in the middle. Why won't it let me change the duration on the transition at the very beginning and at the end.
Unless, how do you make usre your production does a nice fade in and fade out when it is done?

In storyline, add a color panel or image compatible with the video. Make it about 3-4 seconds long. Add a fade transition before the color panel. The project will fade to the color or image. You can adjust the fade time to about 2-3 seconds. Same thing at the front end.
The front end is a good place to put introductory text.
If you use music, you can extend the music to cover the color panel if the song is long enough and you can use a fade out of the music also. Extending the color panel and the music a little longer give a nice effect where the music end slightly after the video. You can also extend the fade out more.
Issues with video, transitions, etc are often tied to the video card. Make sure you have the latest drivers for yours and that you have the latest version of DirectX 9c if you are working with XP.

When I was having problems with "transition duration", I found if I added my transitions by going to View/effect selector, then dragging and dropping the transition, I could change the duration. By using "add transition", it would not let me change the duration. Hope this helps. MK
