Hi all!

I am the beginner of using Roxio, as i bought the new notebook few days ago.

I have the problem in adding AVI files to burn, I don't know whether I have problems in adding other types of video files, as currently I have AVI files in my notebook.

I have seen the previous post which also talked about problem in adding the AVI files, but at this stage I have not taken any action to deal with this problem.

So I want to ask what can I do to solve this problem? If other types of media files also cannot be added, what can I do?

I find that it is very troublesome to use Roxio. I try to install the software for burning disks used in old computer, but those software like PowerProducer and Nero are not compatible in Vista.

Thank you very much!

Exactly what type are these AVI files----divx---xvid? Do you have the correct codecs for them? See if they play in Windows Media Player first.
Most formats work fine in EMC but of course, some proprietary formats do not.
Older programs may not work in Vista but you can try installing some by installing with XP Compatibility. Even if they do install, it's very likely that 100% of the program will not work properly.

When you go to load the files do they show with a red circle with a line through it?
If so this usually indicates that you don't have the proper codecs loaded on your machine for that file type.
An .avi file can be different kinds of files (Divx,Xvid, etc). You need to find out which and get the proper codec installed.

A few different ways. Right click the file and go to Properties than Summary. Or, download Gspot and import your video file and it'll tell you what you have installed on your machine and what you need to play the file.
If these work in WMP, you most likely should be able to use them in EMC.

Hey, I need related help please.

I am also having troubles with AVI files, and this is the first time I tried to burn something. You see, I tried the advice given in this thread: http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=8841 about how to fix both divx and emc 9. I am following the instructions given, but I can't continue, cause when the guide says to go to add/remove programs and click on 'change' instead of uninstall, I can't do that, cause I am running windows Vista and there's no 'change' button, so I can't continue. If I could solve that problem, I would try to continue following the steps in the guide. So, can anyone help me?

And just for info, the avi file I am trying to burn seems to be divx, and I got the codec for it and installed it, but I stil can't add the avi.

Help please!

Im in the same boat.

Have checked with Gspot and it says i already have the required Xvid codec for the avi.
It runs in Media player, but has the no entry sign in EMC when i try to burn it.

Have tried the changing the codec 'divxdec.ax' file as mentioned in another post and that has not worked either. (XFER: There is a change button at the top of the control panel in vista.)

Im getting quite tired of this now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can do a Change and Repair in Vista. You need to first choose the Uninstall Option then in the list, highlight EMC9 and the option to use Repair or Change will show up.
As for divx problem, did you see this tip?

I'm in the same boat here. New desktop with Roxio preloaded. Can play AVIs in WMP, but have the 'stop sign' if I try to burn. I can also use these files in the muvee producer.

I find it very irritating that Roxio has no support for OEMs. I have Nero on my laptop that came with an external drive and have both support and updates.

I have added codecs, and do have the right ones loaded. I've used Gspot to check and have rendered teh avis. Roxio just refuses to recognize them.

I have spent a week trying to get it to work. I have tried all of the rec'd fixes with zero success.

At this point I am fed up. I will contact HP with my complaints and recommend they change to Nero.

Yes I did try, but I did not have the option to repair/change. I was at an extremely frustrated point after a week+ of searching and fixes.

I gave it once last try and it 'seems' to finally work

First I uninstalled all the codecs I had already added.

Then I DL and installed Windows Essentials Media Codec Pack 1
found here

restart

DL and installed the Roxio update found here..
It says that it not for OEMs, but it worked.

It removed Roxio and then installed a updated version.

restart

open program> add new movie> YIPPEEE!!!! It's finally recognizing my AVIs.

I 'think' the trick was the codecs were installed before the updated program

If Divx updater pops up and asks you to update it, don't. If you do, you'll likely need to follow that tip again.
